Choose Hellraiser: Revival for first-person combat, Cenobite mythology and graphic body horror; choose Silent Hill 2 for a slower psychological mystery built around guilt and symbolism; choose Amnesia: The Bunker for scarce resources, stealth and an unpredictable monster in a systemic sandbox. They are all horror games, but they create fear through very different player responsibilities.

At a glance: three different kinds of horror

The most useful distinction is not which game is “scariest.” It is what each game asks you to do when you are afraid. Hellraiser: Revival asks you to fight through danger with weapons and supernatural abilities. Silent Hill 2 asks you to investigate an authored mystery and interpret what James Sunderland encounters. Amnesia: The Bunker asks you to manage a failing infrastructure, improvise with limited tools and survive a pursuer whose behavior creates unscripted pressure.

There is no reliable comparative sales, review-score or playtime statistic that establishes an overall winner. The choice is therefore about the kind of tension you want, not a universal ranking.

Hellraiser: Revival is the action-forward choice

What you play

Official descriptions frame Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival as first-person action horror survival. You play Aidan, who uses ordinary weapons alongside powers from the Genesis Configuration. The immediate goal is to save his girlfriend Sunny after she activates the box and the Cenobites tear her apart; Aidan learns that her soul may still be recoverable in the Labyrinth.

#1 Best Overall
Silent Hill 2 (PS5)
  • Fully Remade to terrify modern audiences
  • KONAMI's intense psychological horror masterpiece SILENT HILL 2 is made exclusively for PlayStation 5
  • The main protagonist James Sunderland searches for clues in the namesake town, after receiving a mysterious letter from his wife Mary… who has long been dead
  • Experience the eerie monsters and other manifestations of James' consciousness reworked after 20 years
  • Made with state-of-the-art technology to play on modern entertainment systems in 4K

This setup makes the box more than a story prop. It is the central gameplay catalyst and the source of abilities that broaden how you confront enemies. Steam describes the loop as combining Genesis Configuration powers with earthly weapons while fighting hell’s wretches, deviants, cultists and infernal priests. If you want horror in which the protagonist can push back decisively, this is the clearest match of the three.

World, enemies and tone

The game introduces a new story in the Hellraiser universe rather than continuing the films directly. Xbox’s description says it is inspired by the first two Hellraiser movies. The plot involves the Scarlet Church cult, its leader Marlowe, the Unworthy, Leviathan and the Labyrinth. Those names signal a mythology-heavy campaign in which cult locations and Cenobite imagery are part of the forward momentum, not just background decoration.

Expect an intentionally extreme content profile. The PlayStation listing identifies blood, gore, intense violence, nudity, strong sexual content and drug use. Steam additionally lists torture, consensual mutilation, BDSM practices, addiction, suicide and domestic abuse. Those subjects are not incidental warnings: they describe the body-horror and trauma vocabulary the game uses. Players who are sensitive to sexualized violence, mutilation or abuse should review the full rating information before buying.

Release and hardware details

Hellraiser: Revival launched on October 8, 2026. Steam lists Saber Interactive as developer and publisher, a demo and an 80 GB storage requirement. PlayStation lists a PS5 version, one-player mode and standard and deluxe editions. The game launched digitally and on physical media, making the physical PS5 release the relevant option for collectors or players who prefer a disc. Edition contents and pricing are not established here, so check the current storefront listing before purchase.

Who should choose it

  • Choose it if first-person shooting and melee-style confrontation sound more appealing than hiding.
  • Choose it if you want a new Hellraiser narrative with explicit Cenobite and Labyrinth lore.
  • Choose it if graphic body horror and mature themes are a feature rather than a drawback.
  • Skip it if you want a mostly defenseless protagonist, quiet investigation or a low-gore experience.

Silent Hill 2 is the psychological and symbolic choice

The premise drives the experience

Konami’s remake follows James Sunderland into Silent Hill after he receives a letter from Mary, his wife who has been dead for years. The town’s monsters and other manifestations are reworked expressions of James’s consciousness. That premise places interpretation at the center: locations, encounters and clues matter because of what they reveal about James, not simply because they unlock the next combat arena.

The remake was announced on October 19, 2022, with Bloober Team developing, Akira Yamaoka returning as composer and Masahiro Ito returning as artist. The original game released in 2001. Those credits explain why the remake is best approached as a psychological-horror work with a specific artistic lineage, rather than as a conventional action remake.

How it differs mechanically

Combat exists, but it serves an authored journey through the town and its interiors. The central question is what James is repressing and how Silent Hill externalizes it. Fog, environmental details, puzzles and enemy design all support that investigation. Progress is therefore less about optimizing a loadout and more about noticing patterns, reading context and tolerating ambiguity.

If you prefer a directed story with a carefully controlled emotional arc, Silent Hill 2 is the strongest fit. It is also the option most likely to frustrate players who expect constant combat upgrades, a power fantasy or explanations that arrive immediately. Its horror is interpretive: the game asks you to sit with uncertainty and connect symbols to James’s character.

Who should choose it

  • Choose it if psychological dread, grief and guilt interest you more than weapon variety.
  • Choose it if you enjoy environmental storytelling, puzzles and a mystery that rewards interpretation.
  • Choose it if a third-person perspective helps you read a protagonist’s reactions and the space around him.
  • Skip it if you want a systemic sandbox, frequent firefights or a clearly explained mythology from the outset.

Amnesia: The Bunker is the resource-pressure sandbox

Your problem is the bunker itself

Amnesia: The Bunker is a 2023 Frictional Games first-person survival-horror title set during World War I. Henri Clément, a French soldier, is trapped underground with a photosensitive monster called the Beast. Survival depends on keeping the bunker’s power running, locating randomly placed resources and rationing scarce ammunition.

Silent Hill 2 Korean Edition [English Supports] for PS5
  • This is Korean Version released in Korea. Region free title so you can play it on your System.
  • Korean Edition supports Multi language Subtitles: English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean
  • Having received a letter from his deceased wife, James heads to where they shared so many memories, in the hope of seeing her one more time: SILENT HILL. There, by the lake, he finds a woman eerily similar to her... "My name...is Maria," the woman smiles. Her face, her voice... She's just like her. Experience a master class in psychological survival horror―lauded as the best in the series―on the latest hardware with chilling visuals and visceral sounds.

The generator creates a hard operational limit. When it runs down, darkness increases and the Beast hunts more actively. You are not merely navigating a level; you are deciding which areas to power, when to spend fuel and how much risk to accept while searching. That pressure makes backtracking and preparation meaningful choices rather than routine errands.

Improvisation replaces a fixed solution

Frictional designed the game to reduce linearity and predictability through procedural generation and emergent gameplay. Resource locations can change, and the environment offers multiple ways to solve obstacles. The revolver is deliberately slow to reload. Guns, grenades and flares can be used not only against threats but also for environmental problems such as locks and fire hazards.

Because ammunition is limited, firing is a decision with downstream consequences. A shot may clear an immediate threat, open a route or create noise that changes your situation. Stealth, timing and experimentation are often more valuable than perfect aim. This is the best choice for players who enjoy learning a hostile system and making a plan from incomplete information.

Best Value

Who should choose it

  • Choose it if darkness, limited supplies and an unpredictable pursuer create the kind of tension you want.
  • Choose it if you like experimenting with tools and accepting that a solution may be messy or temporary.
  • Choose it if replay value comes from different resource placements and emergent encounters.
  • Skip it if you want a tightly scripted mystery or reliable access to powerful weapons.

How to decide in five questions

  1. Do you want to fight or evade? Select Hellraiser: Revival for combat as a core activity, Silent Hill 2 for combat in service of story, or Amnesia: The Bunker when evasion and improvisation dominate.
  2. What kind of story holds your attention? Pick Hellraiser for new franchise mythology, Silent Hill for a character-focused mystery, or Amnesia for a survival situation shaped by systems.
  3. How much uncertainty do you enjoy? Silent Hill’s uncertainty is symbolic and interpretive. The Bunker’s is mechanical, coming from resources and monster behavior. Hellraiser is the most directed of the three while still layering in supernatural lore.
  4. What content can you comfortably handle? Hellraiser has explicit warnings for gore, sexual content, mutilation, torture, addiction, suicide and domestic abuse. Silent Hill’s premise centers on grief and disturbing manifestations. The Bunker’s pressure comes from isolation, darkness and a hostile creature.
  5. Do you want a current release or an established title? Hellraiser released October 8, 2026 and has a Steam demo plus an 80 GB requirement. Amnesia released June 6, 2023. Silent Hill 2 is the remake of the 2001 original; consult the storefront for the edition and platform available in your region.

Which one should you buy?

Buy Hellraiser: Revival for action and Cenobite lore

Use the Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival PS5 release as your reference point if you want a physical copy, a single-player campaign and a game built around weapons plus Genesis Configuration abilities. Its mature-content profile is unusually explicit, so make that part of the decision rather than an afterthought.

Buy Silent Hill 2 for psychological horror

Choose Silent Hill 2 when the appeal is James’s investigation, the town’s symbolism and a controlled emotional journey. It is the most suitable option for readers who discuss themes and character interpretation as much as they discuss mechanics.

Buy Amnesia: The Bunker for systemic survival

Choose Amnesia: The Bunker when you want every resource to matter and every plan to remain provisional. Its generator, random resource placement and photosensitive Beast create pressure that cannot be reduced to memorizing a linear route.

Bottom line

There is no single winner across these three designs. Hellraiser: Revival is the combat-forward, lore-heavy choice; Silent Hill 2 is the psychological mystery; and Amnesia: The Bunker is the systems-driven survival test. Match the game to the activity you want to perform under stress, and the comparison becomes straightforward.
