PlayStation’s official Ghost of Yōtei gameplay deep dive runs nearly 20 minutes and was presented by Sucker Punch creative directors Jason Connell and Nate Fox. The July 10, 2025 showcase is pre-release footage: the PS5 game launched on October 2, 2025.

PlayStation announced the showcase on July 8, 2025, and streamed it on July 10 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST / 11pm CEST. It was billed as nearly 20 minutes of gameplay, with Connell and Fox hosting. The showcase was intended to cover Atsu’s quest for vengeance, her weapons, ways to personalize the journey, special modes and more. That description establishes the topics, not a precise scene-by-scene account of what appears in the video.
What the gameplay showcase was meant to cover
In the announcement, Sucker Punch Senior Communications Manager Andrew Goldfarb wrote that the presentation would share more about Atsu’s quest and show “her new weapons, new ways to personalize your journey at the edge of Japan, new special modes, and much more.” The wording previews the showcase’s focus without specifying the order or details of individual gameplay sequences.

What Ghost of Yōtei is about
Ghost of Yōtei is a standalone PS5 story set in rural Japan in the 1600s, 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima. Its protagonist, Atsu, is a wandering mercenary seeking vengeance against those who killed her family, as well as redemption. Sony describes the game as combining expansive exploration with intricate combat. Sony’s October 2, 2025 launch announcement provides the game’s launch context.
The footage is from before launch
The State of Play deep dive was a pre-release preview, not a current overview of every feature or edition. Sony launched the game on PS5 on October 2, 2025. Its official US PlayStation Store listing now identifies a Complete Edition dated August 12, 2026, with the Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion, Most Wanted combat survival mode and Ghost of Yōtei Legends. The store says Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted require patch v2.0 or later, and that online multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus. Do you need a DualSense or PlayStation Portal?
No special accessory is required to watch the showcase or play the game on PS5. Sony says Ghost of Yōtei uses DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. PlayStation Portal is an optional way to continue playing away from a living-room TV, not a requirement; Sony says it needs a PS5, a PlayStation Network account and broadband Wi-Fi, recommending at least 15 Mbps for a better experience.
