Hero Forge Kitbashing is a Pro/Pro+ customization feature that lets you move and scale supported objects beyond their usual gear locations. It can make a miniature more distinctive, but it also adds design work and printability risk: kitbashed minis are marked XL, incur a manual-review processing fee, must pass a quiz before ordering, and are final sale.
What Hero Forge Kitbashing lets you do
Standard gear placement keeps items in their expected locations. Kitbashing loosens that rule: Hero Forge describes a shield, for example, that can be scaled down and placed on a character’s chest or in a hand. As the company puts it, “Instead of pauldrons automatically being added to your mini’s shoulders, they are added to the mini as a free-floating object, allowing you to move and scale them freely.” Hero Forge’s Kitbashing page says the feature supports most gear and stage objects, many body parts, and some kitbashing-specific objects.
Objects can be attached to joints or to other objects, and the editor provides controls for selecting and transforming them. Listed shortcuts include multi-selecting joints, selecting descendant chains, resetting poses, copying and pasting transforms, snapping rotation in 15-degree increments, and resizing the gizmo. Hero Forge says keyboard shortcuts and drag-and-drop can make some operations easier on a computer; many functions are also available on mobile. The key trade-off is greater control in exchange for more responsibility for how the design is assembled and whether it can be manufactured. A current price comparison with a standard mini cannot be made from a fixed published figure: check the live configuration and checkout for your design.

Access, quiz, and what an order costs
Kitbashing is reserved for Hero Forge Pro and Pro+ subscribers. You can defer the quiz while designing, but Hero Forge requires you to complete it and become “kitbashed certified” before you can add a kitbashed mini to your cart. Check the Hero Forge subscriptions page for current access details.
Hero Forge says kitbashed minis use the same baseline Refined XL Pricing as other minis, with an additional processing fee for manual review. The pricing system automatically marks kitbashed miniatures XL to account for their complexity. The cited documentation does not establish a stable current price, so the amount for a particular design is the one shown in the live configuration and checkout.

Will a kitbashed mini print?
Not every arrangement is printable. The main checks are whether parts touch or connect to the rest of the mini, whether those connections are thick enough, and whether the overall geometry is stable. Hero Forge warns that floating items that do not touch the base mini may be unprintable, while thin connections can break in production or shipping. Its FAQ gives off-balance or twisted geometry as examples of issues that may lead to a printability rejection.
Unlike standard items selected from the gear menu, kitbashed additions do not have the usual connector pegs. That means you need to check that each added part is attached appropriately rather than assuming a standard attachment will keep it secure. Inspect the model from multiple angles and consult Hero Forge’s printability guidance before ordering.

Hero Forge says it manually reviews each ordered model and contacts the customer if it identifies a problem. The feature page says checks generally take two to three business days, but busy periods can cause delays, so this is not a guaranteed turnaround. The company may make small changes to an item, its scale or pose, or the mini’s placement to improve printability.
Materials, digital files, and purchase risks
According to Hero Forge’s FAQ, any of its materials can support Kitbashing when the mini is flagged printable. A mini flagged unprintable may still be bought as an STL for home printing if it is one complete mini with no floating parts. Hero Forge places responsibility for following its printability guidance on the buyer and disclaims a printability warranty. Kitbashed orders are final sale with no refunds; customers can still contact support about suspected manufacturing defects. Read the current Kitbashing FAQ and policy details before checkout.

Hero Forge offers physical custom miniatures, STL downloads for resin and filament printers, and full-color digital miniatures for virtual tabletop programs. Its product information says STL downloads are delivered to the customer’s account within one business day. These are Hero Forge product formats; the cited information does not establish an Amazon listing for kitbashed miniatures.

It is worth considering if you have a specific pose or visual idea that standard gear placement cannot express, and you are comfortable managing connections and checking printability. It is a less suitable choice if you want a quick, low-risk design or need the option to return a mini after ordering. The creative flexibility is real, but the subscription requirement, XL pricing and processing fee, manual review, and final-sale policy make careful previewing part of the process—not an optional last check.
