Two clear examples are LawBreakers and Battleborn, but their endings were not identical: LawBreakers lost its official servers in 2018, while reporting says Battleborn became unplayable even in single-player after its servers shut down in 2021. Gigantic is a more complicated case: its original service ended, but it returned as Gigantic: Rampage Edition in 2024.
What “no longer available to play” means
A server shutdown does not automatically make a game unplayable. Some games retain an offline campaign or local modes; others depend on publisher-operated servers and cease working altogether. Delisting a game from digital stores is different again: it affects new purchases but does not, by itself, establish whether existing owners can still play.
The examples below distinguish the end of official online service from what remained playable afterward. They also separate a discontinued original from a later release under a new edition.
LawBreakers: official servers ended in 2018
The LawBreakers Team announced on June 11, 2018 that its servers would remain open until September 14, 2018, and said it was sunsetting support because it could no longer operate the game. The announcement described the period before the shutdown, when the game would be made free-to-play on Steam; it is not evidence of current availability. The notice establishes the end date for the official service. It does not establish whether an unofficial community project is available now, so claims that fan-run efforts restore access need separate, current evidence.
Battleborn: reported unplayable after its 2021 shutdown
Contemporaneous reporting says Battleborn’s servers were deactivated on January 31, 2021, after which the game could no longer be played in any form, including its single-player mode. The report also says the game had already been removed from digital storefronts. These details are reported by Eurogamer; they are not an official publisher notice in the sources cited here.

That distinction matters: Battleborn is described as more than a lost online mode. According to the reporting, server deactivation left no playable single-player fallback.
Gigantic: the original ended, but a new edition returned
The original Gigantic service ended in 2018, according to a historical reference. That history should not be confused with the game’s current successor release: Epic Games Store lists Gigantic: Rampage Edition as a premium, definitive release of the original 5v5 MOBA hero shooter, with a Windows release date of April 9, 2024. The store listing says the edition adds modes, heroes, maps, cross-platform play, and gameplay improvements. It establishes a Windows release, but does not establish the current service status of every platform, mode, or region. It is therefore more accurate to say the original Gigantic service ended and the game later returned in a new edition than to call Gigantic simply unavailable.

A tertiary historical reference says Epic shut down Paragon’s servers in April 2018 and describes it as a free-to-play multiplayer MOBA. That alone is not enough to list it definitively here: the available evidence does not include a primary shutdown announcement, and its classification as a hero shooter is less clear than for LawBreakers or Battleborn.
