Hideo Kojima says he is deliberately keeping OD under wraps—even though he usually releases teaser after teaser. In remarks reported from the October 5, 2026 season premiere of his radio program KOJI10, he said, “I want to keep quiet and release it.” The secrecy is his stated approach to publicity, not evidence that the game has stopped progressing.
Why is Kojima saying so little about OD?
Kojima described OD as “still a mystery” and said, “I normally put out teaser after teaser. This time I don’t want to reveal much.” GamesRadar reported the comments from the KOJI10 broadcast on October 5; AUTOMATON WEST’s account the following day likewise characterized the lack of teasing as intentional.
That makes the contrast with Kojima’s usual promotional style part of the story: he says he is choosing not to reveal much this time. It does not, by itself, establish why the game’s mechanics or other details remain undisclosed.
Does the quiet mean OD is not being made?
No. The production remarks reported from the same broadcast describe work underway. GamesRadar says Kojima reported that filming had been underway since June and would continue through the end of 2026, with ADR—additional dialogue recording—extending into 2027. He also reportedly said stand-ins were being used for temporary performances while principal performances were not being filmed. These are Kojima’s comments as reported by the outlet, not independently verified production data.

AUTOMATON WEST reported Kojima saying, “It’s not that it isn’t finished.” That line should not be read as meaning the game is complete: the same coverage describes filming and post-production work still to be done. GamesRadar’s report quotes him saying, “this doesn’t mean we haven’t made the game.”
What has Kojima said about production before?
On September 17, 2026, Kojima appeared in Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show broadcast and provided updates on OD – KNOCK. Xbox Wire’s recap confirms the appearance and update, while GamesRadar’s report of Kojima’s remarks says performance capture and ADR, which had paused during the SAG-AFTRA strike, had resumed and production was proceeding on schedule.

In that broadcast, Kojima described OD as “a completely new kind of game that tests the thresholds of fear,” and said the project was taking shape through experimentation and iteration, according to GamesRadar. That offers a broad description, not a detailed explanation of the gameplay.
Is there a release date or preorder?
The cited coverage gives no release window and announces no preorder. “Proceeding on schedule,” as reported from Kojima’s September remarks, does not specify a launch date. The October production comments describe work continuing into 2027, but do not establish when the game will be released.
