This is a thematic recommendation, not a list of games Kojima has personally called his best. P.T. is essential context for Kojima’s approach to fear, but it is not a straightforward current download recommendation.
What horror games should you play while waiting for OD?
The strongest verified pick here is Silent Hill 2 (2024), a remake of the psychological-horror game. It centers on James Sunderland and explores guilt, grief, and existential horror through the symbolic town of Silent Hill. Those themes make it a good fit if you want disturbing atmosphere and psychological unease rather than a recommendation based on Kojima’s personal favorites.
Konami says the remake expands explorable areas, shifts to an over-the-shoulder view, revises combat, and adds cut-scenes. It launched for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam on October 8, 2024. Konami later reported that combined physical retail and digital copies reached one million in less than a week after launch. That figure is a launch-period sales milestone, not a measure of current availability or sales.
Konami’s announcement of the Silent Hill 2 remake has the game details; its launch report gives the sales figure.

What is known about OD?
Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios announced OD on December 7, 2023. The announcement describes a project about testing a fear threshold and what it means to “OD on fear,” while blurring the boundaries between gaming and film. Jordan Peele is named as one of several storytellers; Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier were identified as lead actors in the then-upcoming project.
The announcement says Kojima Productions is collaborating with Xbox Game Studios and its cloud gaming technology, but does not give a release date or window. It does not establish a full technical description of how the game will use cloud technology, nor does it specify the final gameplay. Kojima’s 2020 remarks about P.T. are useful context for his interest in fear, not a confirmed account of OD’s mechanics.

In September 2026, GamesRadar reported Kojima calling OD “a completely new kind of game that tests the thresholds of fear,” and saying production was proceeding on schedule. In October 2026, the outlet reported his remarks that work on the game was continuing and that he wanted to “keep quiet and release it.” These are updates reported from an Xbox broadcast and a radio episode, respectively; no release window had been disclosed in those reports.
Kojima Productions’ OD announcement sets out the original premise and collaborators. For the background to the partnership, see Xbox Wire’s June 2022 announcement.
Why P.T. matters—and why availability is different
P.T. remains important to understanding Kojima’s horror interests because he described it as an experiment in creating a response to fear of the unknown. In a 2020 BAFTA interview, he said, “Human fear ultimately stems from the unknown,” and called the technique a one-off. He also said, “P.T. ended as just an experiment, but I would like to make another horror game someday.”
Those comments establish what P.T. meant to Kojima, not whether it can currently be downloaded from an official storefront. The sources here do not verify present availability, so treat it as a reference point rather than a standard purchase recommendation. BAFTA’s interview with Kojima contains his comments.
