OD – KNOCK is the latest unsettling glimpse of OD, the in-development horror project from Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios. Its candlelit room, repeated knocks and threatening sounds create a frightening scene, but the teaser does not explain the game’s full premise or how it will play.
What is OD?
OD is an experimental project from Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios, announced by the partners on December 7, 2023. Kojima Productions said it would explore testing the threshold of fear and blur the boundaries between games and film. Hideo Kojima described the ambition as a “new form of media” in the announcement.

Jordan Peele is one of several storytellers involved, alongside Kojima. The announcement does not describe Peele as the sole writer or specify his precise creative duties, nor does it tie him specifically to the Knock teaser.
The announced lead performers are Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer and Udo Kier. An Xbox development update dated September 17, 2026, showed Lillis and Schafer in a performance-capture session; it did not include a release date or a detailed explanation of the gameplay.

What does the OD – KNOCK trailer show?
Presented at Kojima Productions’ 10th-anniversary event in September 2025, the teaser is mostly framed from a first-person perspective. In TechRadar’s description, a character opens a door using a red card with an obscured message, enters a room and lights candles on an altar. The scene turns threatening as knocking, a creaking door, footsteps and whispers build before a figure grabs the character from behind.
Those details describe the teaser’s imagery, not a confirmed playable sequence or the full plot. PC Gamer reported that the footage was made in-engine with Unreal Engine 5. Neither outlet established the game’s complete structure, controls or gameplay loop.
The sound design is central to the scare. During the presentation, Kojima said, “There is a different kind of fear Jordan [Peele] will do. Mine is the ‘knock’, is the fear. I really am afraid of big knock sounds,” as quoted by TechRadar. He also cautioned against taking the candle scene as a complete account of the game: “not a game about lighting candles,” he said, according to PC Gamer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How does Knock fit with the first OD teaser?
The 2023 announcement introduced OD through its broad ideas of fear and a blend of games and film. The 2025 Knock footage makes that horror more tangible with a specific, claustrophobic scene built around candles and an unseen presence. The contrast does not establish separate game modes or separate projects for Kojima and Peele; the available announcements present OD as one project with multiple storytellers.
Is OD coming to Xbox, and when can you play it?
Xbox lists OD with Xbox Game Studios as publisher and Kojima Productions as developer. As of October 8, 2026, the listing has a pending rating and no release date or usable OD-specific purchase or preorder information. The September 2026 Xbox update shows development continuing, but does not announce when the game will launch.
