High On Life 2 is spectacular in its imagination and mission variety, but less consistent as a shooter and comedy. Its skateboard gives the sequel a distinct movement identity, and its missions deliver memorable surprises; combat depth, joke pacing and launch-period PC stability are less convincing. Whether it is worth playing depends on how much you value creative set pieces over tightly tuned gunplay.
What is High On Life 2?
High On Life 2 is a single-player first-person shooter sequel from Squanch Games. GameSpot lists its release date as February 13, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game keeps the silent, nameless protagonist and talking alien weapons, but moves the story from bounty hunting to a rogue-assassin fight against an extraterrestrial pharmaceutical company seeking to turn humans into a narcotic. GameSpot’s game page and Squanch Games’ official page provide the release and premise details.

What makes the sequel stand out?
The skateboard changes movement and combat
The skateboard is the defining addition. Rather than simply adding a vehicle or optional toy, it replaces the conventional sprint and is woven into both traversal and fighting. Levels and arenas make use of rails, wallrides and tricks, giving movement a more expressive role than in a standard run-and-gun shooter. It is the clearest reason this sequel feels like more than a new set of missions built around the original game’s talking-gun concept. GameSpot’s review describes its role across traversal and combat.
Weapons and missions keep introducing new ideas
The weapons have distinct functions: Gus can provide a shield, Creature launches smaller creatures, and Sheath’s electrified harpoon can assist with traversal and puzzles. The larger strength, though, is how the game builds unusual activities and set pieces around its world. GameSpot highlights varied side activities and encounters; PC Gamer points to a murder-mystery mission and mechanics tailored to particular levels. These bespoke moments are where the game’s creativity most reliably lands. PC Gamer’s review discusses the mission variety and level-specific ideas.

How good are the humor and story?
The comedy is broad, rapid-fire and often aimed at corporate power. GameSpot found the anticapitalist and topical satire a strength, while also noting jokes that run too long or recur. PC Gamer described a somewhat gentler tone than the first game. That makes the humor a matter of tolerance as much as taste: players who enjoy a steady stream of irreverent dialogue may find plenty to like, while those who prefer jokes to leave room for the action may find the pacing wearing. The reviews agree more on the comedy’s uneven rhythm than on whether its tone is an improvement.
Does the combat hold up?
The combat is lively, but the reviews suggest it does not consistently make the most of the arsenal. GameSpot criticized the impact and feedback of fights as well as enemy AI; PC Gamer found that the weapons and opponents do not always give players a strong reason to switch tactics. The skateboard adds movement options, but it does not by itself solve the underlying issue: a shooter can offer many tools and still feel shallow if encounters do not reward using them in different ways. Players looking primarily for deep, punchy gunplay should temper expectations.

How polished is the PC version?
Launch-period PC reviews reported technical problems, but those findings describe specific review builds and should not be treated as a verdict on every current installation. GameSpot listed frequent PC crashes among its drawbacks. PC Gamer reported bugs, overlapping dialogue and performance variation on its review system, which used an RTX 5090 and Ryzen 7 9800X3D. That is one high-end test configuration, not evidence of performance across all PCs. The available reviews do not establish whether those issues persist after subsequent patches; check recent patch notes and platform-specific player reports before buying if stability is a priority.
Is High On Life 2 worth playing?
For players drawn to imaginative levels, oddball side activities and a movement hook that affects both exploration and fights, the answer is yes—with reservations. The reviews more consistently praise mission creativity than combat depth or technical polish. GameSpot’s Richard Wakeling said he completed the game in 15 hours including exploration and side activities; that is one reviewer’s experience, not a reliable playtime estimate for every player. PC Gamer scored the game 75 and characterized it as creative and funny but troubled by nagging problems. Both assessments point to an entertaining, inventive sequel rather than a uniformly polished shooter.

Which version should you choose?
GameSpot lists PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 versions. The available evidence does not establish comparable resolution or frame-rate results, so there is no sound basis here for ranking platforms on performance. Choose according to your hardware, preferred input and current patch status, and confirm the edition and availability you want before ordering. Squanch Games lists Amazon among its retailers, but the cited pages do not confirm a particular physical SKU, price or current stock.
