Highguard is no longer playable online. Wildlight Entertainment announced on March 3, 2026 that it would permanently shut down the game on March 12, 2026. That date has passed.

When did Highguard shut down?

Wildlight’s March 3 announcement said Highguard’s servers would remain online until March 12, 2026. The game has therefore already shut down as of October 8, 2026. The announcement and available reporting do not give an exact shutdown time or time zone.

Wildlight’s announcement, reproduced on Reddit, and Game Developer’s March 3 report both give the closure date.

Why did Wildlight shut down Highguard?

Wildlight said it had not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term. In the studio’s words: “Despite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term.” The statement was issued in the studio’s voice; no individual speaker was named.

That is the studio’s stated reason for closing the game, not a complete independent account of the business decision.

How many people played Highguard?

Wildlight reported that more than 2 million players had stepped into Highguard’s world since launch. This is a cumulative player figure reported by the studio, not a count of concurrent players or active users.

What was planned for Highguard’s final update?

Wildlight said it planned one final update for the game’s remaining life. The announced additions were:

  • A new Warden
  • A new weapon
  • Account-level progression
  • Skill trees

Is there an offline mode or a way to play Highguard now?

The available announcement and reporting establish the planned server closure, but do not establish whether an official offline mode or another preservation option became available afterward. They also do not specify the precise time at which the servers went offline.
