There is no authoritative Nintendo Switch 2 button chart for Hitman: Absolution. Feral Interactive’s official manual documents the gamepad functions, but it uses a generic dual-analog diagram rather than Nintendo button labels. On Switch 2, open the game’s Controls Layout screen to see the physical assignments for your controller. This guide explains what every documented action does, how to combine those actions for stealth and point shooting, how gyro aiming fits in, and why the camera-shoulder switch should not be mistaken for a 180-degree quick-turn.
What is officially known about the Switch 2 controls?
The control information that can be verified comes from two different sources. Feral Interactive’s official manual describes a generic gamepad: one analog stick moves Agent 47, the other controls the camera, and clicking either stick performs additional actions. The manual names the functions but does not identify Nintendo’s A, B, X, Y, ZL, ZR, L, or R buttons.

Nintendo’s product listing for the Switch edition says it includes gyro aiming, supports handheld, tabletop, and TV modes, and works with a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Those are platform features, not a replacement for a Switch 2 button diagram. If you are playing the Switch edition on Switch 2 hardware, treat the labels shown by the game as the authority for your particular controller and control-layout preset.

| Melee | Use the melee input for close attacks. | The melee prompt and button. |
| Activate items | Use the item-activation input for equipment or objects. | The item prompt and assigned action. |
| Agility actions | Use the agility input when an eligible vault, climb, or movement action is shown. | The agility prompt and button. |
| Take disguise | Use the disguise input near a body or clothing bundle. | The disguise prompt and button. |
| Holster weapon | Use the holster input to put a weapon away. | The holster button and the visual weapon state. |
| Toggle silencer | Use the silencer input when the equipped weapon supports that action. | The silencer prompt and whether the weapon currently allows it. |
| Weapon category selection | Use the weapon-category inputs to change equipment groups. | The category buttons or directional inputs in the layout. |
| Notebook | Open the notebook with its dedicated input. | The notebook button. |
| Pause | Open the pause menu with the pause input. | The system button and the route to Controls Layout. |
Because the manual does not publish physical Nintendo labels, any guide that confidently assigns these functions to specific Switch 2 face buttons or stick clicks is adding information that the documented sources do not establish.

How to check your actual Switch 2 button mapping
Use the in-game layout, not a memory-based chart
- Start the game and pause during a mission or from the title-screen menus.
- Choose the menu entry labelled Controls Layout (the exact location can vary with the current menu context).
- Select the gamepad or controller view that matches how you are playing: handheld controls, detached Joy-Con controls, or Pro Controller.
- Read the displayed assignment for each function before attempting a stick click, shoulder press, or face-button action.
- Return to the mission and test non-critical actions first: move, look, sneak, aim, interact, and holster.
If a prompt appears during play, use the prompt shown for that situation even when it differs from a remembered layout. Context-sensitive actions such as taking cover, dragging a body, taking a disguise, activating an item, and performing an agility move only appear when the environment supports them.
Check whether gyro aiming is active
Nintendo’s listing explicitly includes gyro aiming. The listing does not specify a universal Switch 2 button for enabling it, so look for the gyro or motion option in the game’s control or options screens. Gyro is best treated as an optional precision aid layered over stick aiming: use the analog stick for broad turns and motion for small corrections, rather than expecting motion to replace every camera movement.
Movement, camera control, and staying unnoticed
Basic movement
The left analog stick is the documented movement control. Small stick deflections are useful when you need to approach a person or object without crossing a sightline too quickly; a full deflection is appropriate when the route is safe and speed matters. Clicking the movement stick activates sneak according to the generic manual. Confirm the actual stick-click on Switch 2 in the layout before relying on it near a guard.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Camera discipline
The right analog stick controls the camera. In a stealth game, camera position is information: sweep corners before moving, check behind you after passing a guard, and keep the intended exit in view before starting a takedown. Clicking the camera stick changes the camera shoulder. Shoulder switching can expose more of the scene around an obstruction, but it is not documented as a 180-degree turn.
Running without turning a mistake into a detection
The run input is separate from movement. Run only after you have confirmed that the route is clear; a fast movement state can carry Agent 47 into a witness, a restricted area, or an unplanned line of sight. When you need to cross an exposed space, combine a pre-checked route with cover rather than assuming speed alone will protect you.
Stealth controls: a complete, repeatable procedure
Stealth in Absolution is a chain of actions rather than one button. The manual identifies cover, disguises, distractions, body hiding, silent takedowns, and Instinct as the core tools. Use them in this order when entering an area watched by enemies.

1. Scout with the camera and Instinct
Look around with the camera before leaving safety. Enter Instinct with its documented input to reveal usable items and objectives, predict enemy paths, and identify opportunities connected to the current area. Instinct is temporary, so use the information it provides to choose a route instead of leaving it active without a plan.
2. Move from cover to cover
Approach a suitable cover point and use the cover input when the prompt appears. When the game indicates that another cover point is available, change cover rather than walking through the open. Cover is a positioning tool: it lets you advance while reducing exposure, but it does not make every movement invisible.
3. Create a distraction
Items can function as weapons, distractions, or both. Use the interact, activate-item, pickup, or throw/drop action shown by the prompt to manipulate an item. A distraction is valuable when it moves a guard away from a doorway, a body, or the route you need; do not throw an item merely because it is available if the noise would attract a second observer.
4. Perform the takedown only when the exit is ready
Use the melee or takedown action when the target is isolated and you already know where the body will go. A successful takedown solves only the immediate threat; an unattended body can create a later discovery.
5. Drag and hide the body
After the takedown, use the drag-body input and move the body to an appropriate hiding spot. Keep the camera pointed toward likely witnesses while dragging, and stop if a patrol approaches. The manual treats body concealment as part of the stealth loop, not as an optional cleanup animation.

6. Take a disguise and manage recognition
Near a body or clothing bundle, use the take-disguise input when the prompt appears. Instinct can temporarily help Agent 47 blend in with people wearing the same type of outfit. That benefit depends on the matching disguise, so use Instinct to move through a risky group rather than treating every disguise as universal protection. Holster a weapon when the situation calls for a less conspicuous appearance, using the holster input shown in your layout.

Instinct: information, blending, and meter management
What Instinct reveals
Instinct highlights useful items and objectives, predicts enemy routes, and supports blending with people who wear the same type of outfit as Agent 47’s disguise. These functions answer different questions: highlights show what can be used, route prediction helps time a crossing, and blending helps you remain inconspicuous inside a matching group.
How to spend the meter
Instinct is temporary. According to the manual, the meter can be replenished by completing objectives, creating distractions, and making stealthy takedowns. Spend it before a difficult crossing or point-shooting setup, then rebuild it through the objectives and quiet actions that the level offers. If the meter is low, rely on ordinary camera scouting, cover, and patience instead of repeatedly activating Instinct without acting.
Aiming, shooting, and precision control
Ordinary aiming
- Equip the desired weapon using the documented weapon-category or selection inputs.
- Hold the aim shoulder control shown in the Controls Layout.
- Use the right analog stick to place the reticle and the separate precision-aim input when you need finer control while already aiming.
- Press the shoot, throw, or drop input shown for the current weapon and context.
- Reload with the documented reload action when ammunition is depleted, then reassess whether remaining concealed is still possible.
The generic manual deliberately separates ordinary aim from precision aim. Do not assume that clicking the camera stick, pressing a face button, or moving the controller activates precision aim until the Switch 2 layout confirms it.

Gyro aiming is included in Nintendo’s description of the Switch edition. With motion enabled, broad camera placement can still come from the right stick while small wrist movements make final alignment easier. Motion sensitivity, recentering behavior, and the exact activation input are not specified in the product listing, so adjust only the options that the game actually exposes and verify the result in a safe area before a mission-critical shot.
Point shooting: the documented sequence
Point shooting is not simply rapid fire. The manual gives a deliberate sequence:
- Enter Instinct mode.
- Aim at the intended targets.
- Tag the targets using the on-screen target prompt.
- Take the shots after the targets are tagged.
Because this sequence consumes a temporary resource and changes the timing of the encounter, reserve it for a situation where multiple targets must be handled quickly or where a normal shot would not provide enough control. The physical buttons for entering Instinct, tagging, and firing remain the ones shown by your in-game layout.

Cover, disguises, items, and close combat
Cover and agility
Cover is activated only near a suitable surface or position. Agility actions are also contextual: when the game presents an agility prompt, use the assigned input to perform the available movement action. If no prompt appears, changing buttons will not create a vault or climb that the environment does not support.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Items and weapon state
The manual distinguishes picking up an item, activating an item, and using the shoot/throw/drop action. Pick up an object when you want to carry it; activate it when the object has a dedicated use; throw or drop it when the prompt assigns that context. Weapon-category selection changes what is equipped, while holster weapon changes how visibly Agent 47 carries it. The toggle-silencer action is available only when the equipped weapon and game state support it.
Melee and silent takedowns
Melee is the close-range action documented by the manual. A stealthy takedown is safest when the target is isolated, the camera has checked the surrounding area, and a hiding place is available. If any of those conditions is missing, use cover or a distraction first rather than forcing the melee input in the open.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is there a quick-turn button?
No dedicated quick-turn or named 180-degree command is defined in the authoritative material available for this version. The generic manual documents a camera-shoulder switch, performed by clicking the camera stick, but that changes which side of Agent 47 the camera favors; it should not be described as a quick-turn unless the game’s own Controls Layout labels it that way.
For a rapid reversal, use the right analog stick to rotate the camera and confirm the direction with the scene. If your control screen shows a separate quick-turn action, follow that screen; if it does not, do not assign an unverified Switch 2 button by trial and error during a guarded sequence.

Choosing a control setup
| Setup | Strengths | Trade-offs | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stick-only aiming | Consistent, familiar camera control without motion input. | Fine reticle adjustments rely entirely on the analog stick. | Players who want a fixed camera feel or cannot use motion controls. |
| Stick plus gyro | Analog stick handles broad turns while motion can assist final alignment. | Requires a sensitivity and posture that feel comfortable; exact options depend on the game. | Precision shots and small corrections when the Switch edition’s gyro option is enabled. |
| Handheld Joy-Con controls | Supports handheld play and motion aiming when enabled. | Button and stick positions differ from a Pro Controller, so prompts must be checked for the active layout. | Portable missions and players who prefer the built-in screen. |
| Nintendo Switch Pro Controller | Separate full-size gamepad with the same documented dual-analog function set. | Requires the controller to be connected and the correct layout selected. | TV or tabletop play with a conventional gamepad grip. |
| Stealth-first approach | Emphasizes cover, distractions, disguises, body hiding, and Instinct. | Slower and more dependent on reading patrol routes. | Restricted areas, crowded spaces, and missions where discovery is costly. |
| Point-shooting approach | Instinct tagging can resolve several targets in a controlled sequence. | Consumes temporary Instinct and can turn a quiet situation into an overt encounter. | Situations that genuinely require rapid, planned shots. |
Neither control setup is objectively superior on the evidence available. The practical choice is whether you prefer fixed stick control or want gyro available for fine adjustments, then whether handheld ergonomics or a Pro Controller better suits your hands and screen position.

Troubleshooting common control problems
“The button in a guide does not do what it says.”
Ignore the physical label from an external chart and open Controls Layout. The documented manual lists functions, not Nintendo button names. Confirm that the selected layout matches the controller currently in use.
“I cannot activate cover, disguise, or agility.”
These are contextual actions. Move to the relevant surface, body, clothing bundle, or traversal point until the game displays its prompt. If there is no prompt, the location or current state does not support that action.
“The camera turned when I expected a quick-turn.”
Clicking the camera stick is documented as a camera-shoulder switch, not a guaranteed 180-degree turn. Use the right stick for a manual reversal and check whether your own layout lists a separate quick-turn command.
“Gyro aiming is not responding.”
Check the motion or gyro option in the game’s controls or options menu, make sure the correct controller is active, and test motion while aiming rather than while simply walking. Nintendo confirms that gyro aiming is included in the Switch edition, but the product listing does not define one universal activation button or sensitivity value.
“Point shooting will not start.”
Follow the full sequence: enter Instinct, aim at targets, tag them, and then fire. If tagging is unavailable, verify that Instinct is active, that a valid target is in view, and that the relevant prompt is being read from the current control layout.
Switch edition facts and scope
Nintendo’s UK listing identifies Hitman: Absolution as Nintendo Switch download software released on 13 November 2025. It describes 20 missions, gyro aiming, handheld, tabletop, and TV modes, and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller compatibility. Those details establish what Nintendo advertises for the Switch edition; they do not establish a separate Switch 2-specific button diagram, a dedicated quick-turn command, or a particular performance result.
For that reason, the safest workflow on Switch 2 is simple: learn the named functions from the manual, read the physical assignments in the game’s Controls Layout menu, and use the on-screen contextual prompts whenever an action depends on a particular surface, item, disguise, or target.
