They describe visual and audio upgrades, DLSS support, improved resolution and traversal, faster flight, and Joy-Con 2 mouse controls.
When did Hogwarts Legacy launch on Nintendo Switch 2?
Hogwarts Legacy released for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, the same day the console launched. Sega announced the date on May 8, 2025; Warner Bros. Games’ announcement also gives June 5 as the release date. Sega’s announcement and Warner Bros. Games’ announcement confirm the game’s date, while Nintendo’s console announcement sets the Switch 2 launch for that day.
Is the Switch 2 version a remaster?
“Remaster” is not the formal label used in the official announcements covered here. Sega and Warner Bros. Games call it the Nintendo Switch 2 version and describe platform-specific improvements. The announcements do not establish that it is a separately named remaster.
What is different in the Switch 2 version?
Sega and Warner Bros. Games announced upgrades over the original Switch version. The resolution figures below are publisher-announced specifications, not independent measurements or performance tests.

These are features described by the companies, not independent findings about how consistently the game hits a particular resolution or frame rate during play. Warner Bros. Games identifies Avalanche Software and Krome Studios as co-developers of the Switch 2 version.
What is Hogwarts Legacy about?
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action RPG set in the 1800s wizarding world. You play as a fifth-year Hogwarts student, exploring the world, learning spells, brewing potions, and developing abilities. The game’s premise and activities are described in the Sega announcement and Warner Bros. Games announcement.

Is the Japanese physical Switch 2 edition a full game card?
No. The Japanese physical release is a Game-Key Card, not a card containing all game data. Sega says the game downloads the first time it is played, so the package does not avoid downloading the software.
Internet and storage required
Sega’s notice for this Japanese edition requires an internet connection and at least 24 GB of free storage for first play. Updates may need additional space. Nintendo announced 256 GB of internal storage for Switch 2, with microSD Express cards supported for additional storage. A compatible card is relevant if you do not have enough free space; it is not a universal requirement. See Sega’s Game-Key Card notice and Nintendo’s hardware announcement.

What editions and prices were announced?
Sega’s May 2025 announcement listed the Japanese launch release in packaged and digital standard editions, plus a digital Deluxe Edition. Its prices were launch prices for Japan, not current or worldwide prices:

Sega later announced a Japan-only price-revised physical edition for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, released September 17, 2026, at ¥3,627 before tax / ¥3,990 tax included. That announcement does not list Nintendo Switch 2, so the price-revised package should not be assumed to be a Switch 2 edition. Sega’s September 2026 announcement lists the platforms and price.
