How Coral Tower is laid out
Coral Tower is in the Sands of Karak. You must clear four consecutive gauntlet rooms before ascending to Crust King Khann’s arena. The route and encounter structure are described by the Hollow Knight Wiki; check the in-game route as you go rather than relying on an assumed shortcut.
How to clear the four gauntlets
These rooms are an endurance challenge, so reduce the number of threats that can pressure you from the air before focusing on grounded enemies.
- Prioritize flyers. The community-maintained Hollow Knight Wiki recommends dealing with flying enemies first, since grounded enemies are easier to manage on their own.
- Use Clawline to reach airborne targets. The wiki notes that Clawline can catch flyers and create an opportunity for a follow-up strike.
- Use the terrain against grounded enemies. Melee knockback can push them into spikes, according to the same wiki.
These are community tactical recommendations, not developer-confirmed instructions. If a room becomes crowded, focus on removing the enemy that limits your movement or keeps attacking from above, rather than trying to damage every target at once.

How to read Khann’s attacks and find openings
The broad strategy from the Hollow Knight Wiki is to attack during Coral Pillar or shortly after Aerial Coral Strike, when it identifies safer positions near Khann. The attack names below are used by the sources; they should not be taken as confirmed canonical names from the game.
Coral Pillar
The wiki identifies Khann’s Coral Pillar attack as an opening to strike. A separate editorial guide describes dust cues before coral pillars and advises moving away from floor eruptions, taking gaps or open lanes when pillars fall, and not lingering in the center during area denial. Follow the visible eruption path rather than committing to a long attack while the floor is dangerous. The detailed dust and pillar guidance comes from Game Rant’s boss guide, so treat it as lower-confidence tactical advice rather than an official move description.

Aerial Coral Strike
When Khann is airborne preparing Aerial Coral Strike, the wiki recommends standing directly beneath him. This can put Hornet in position as he lands; avoid moving too far forward, where contact damage can punish you. Once the strike has passed, use the opening near him to attack, then reset your position for the next tell.
Does Hornet need a particular build?
No required loadout is established by the sources. Game Rant recommends Pale Nails, but there is no independent evidence here that this setup is stronger or necessary. Treat it as optional advice, not a prerequisite for clearing the tower or beating Khann.

What do you get for defeating Crust King Khann?
The Hollow Knight Wiki reports that defeating Khann awards the Encrusted Heart. The sources available for this guide do not establish the item’s exact effect, so check its in-game description rather than assuming it grants a particular upgrade.
