Where to find the Moss Mother Duo
The first Moss Mother is fought in the Ruined Chapel in Moss Grotto. The optional double Moss Mother fight is a separate encounter in western Weavenest Atla, west of the bench. Nintendo Life lists the pair among Act 1’s optional bosses and names Weavelight as the reward. Nintendo Life’s boss list corroborates the location, optional status and reward.

The fight’s detailed behavior below is described by the community-maintained Hollow Knight Wiki; the tactical suggestions are drawn from the fan-made Silksong.codes boss guide, not official Team Cherry advice.
What changes in the two-Mother fight
The encounter begins with one Mother. The wiki reports that when she reaches 313/628 HP, her next Headbutt summons the second Mother instead of producing the usual falling hazards or Mossgrubs. This threshold and behavior are wiki-documented encounter details, not an official guide specification.

Recognize the attacks and punish safely
The wiki uses “Swoop” and “Headbutt” as descriptive attack names, while noting that most attack names are not confirmed in-game terminology. The Swoop is a short dive with the stinger aimed at Hornet, followed by a horizontal skid. The Headbutt sends the Mother into the ceiling and releases hazards; small dust puffs indicate where falling objects will land.
Swoop: jump across, then take a short opening
When a Mother dives, jump over her rather than jumping straight up in place. A downward attack can pogo off her as she passes, but use it only if the timing is comfortable. After she skids and recovers, take a brief punish rather than committing to a long attack. With two bosses, keep enough room to see their approaches and prioritize a clean dodge when their movements overlap.

Headbutt: watch the dust and wait for every fall
Move out of the zones marked by dust puffs when a Mother hits the ceiling. The ceiling attack can leave a comparatively long window to heal, according to the fan guide, but wait until the falling pattern—including a possible delayed fourth stalactite—has finished before Binding. If the second Mother is also moving into range, safety matters more than using every opening to heal.
Mossgrubs: clear them before they complicate the fight
Attack summoned Mossgrubs promptly when it is safe to do so. Leaving them alive adds another hazard to track, while defeating them can replenish Silk. Do not chase one through a dangerous overlap of boss attacks; dodge first, then clear it during a safer opening.

A situational way to delay the second Mother
The wiki reports that hitting a Weavenest Atla Mother immediately after her Swoop can cause her to repeat that attack. In some situations, this may delay the second summon until she staggers. Treat it as a situational tactic rather than a guaranteed way to control the phase: the simpler approach is to learn the duo’s rhythm and take safe, short openings.

The pair is optional, and its confirmed reward is the Weavelight tool. The cited sources establish that reward but do not explain the tool’s mechanics, so this guide does not assume what it does. If the fight is interrupting your progress, you can return later; if you want the tool, plan for the second Mother and the more demanding hazard pattern.
