To protect Rosaries in Hollow Knight: Silksong, buy or find a Rosary String, then keep it in your inventory: strung Rosaries are not dropped when you die. Use the string from your inventory when you want to release its 60 Rosaries for spending. A purchased string costs 80 Rosaries, so breaking one returns fewer Rosaries than it cost.
How to string Rosaries
- Get a Rosary String. Buy one from a merchant or a Rosary stringing machine for 80 Rosaries, or collect one at a glowing item spot. The Hollow Knight Wiki lists an unlimited supply at the merchants and machines it identifies. Hollow Knight Wiki: Rosary String

Because buying a string costs 80 and breaking it releases 60, treat it as a way to secure currency you already have—not as a profitable exchange. Keep enough loose Rosaries for purchases or tolls, and string only the amount you are willing to make unavailable until you break it.

Buy from merchants or machines
The Hollow Knight Wiki lists Rosary Strings for 80 Rosaries from these named merchants: Pebb in Bone Bottom, Mort in Pilgrim’s Rest, Jubilana in Songclave, and Grindle in Blasted Steps. Find strings at glowing item spots

Choose the bundle size based on how much you want protected at once. A larger release means fewer inventory items to manage, but that currency is still unavailable for spending until the item is broken.

When to keep Rosaries strung
- Before a risky trip: secure the portion of your balance you do not need to spend immediately.
- Before a purchase or toll: leave enough unstrung to pay, since strung Rosaries cannot be spent.
- When your loose balance is low: break a string from your inventory to release the currency you need.
