Hollow Knight: Silksong released for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4, 2025, and is also available on the original Nintendo Switch. Nintendo lists higher resolution, improved frame rates, and additional effects for the Switch 2 edition; a Switch 2 console is not required to play the game.
Is Hollow Knight: Silksong on Nintendo Switch 2?
Yes. Nintendo lists the Switch 2 edition’s release date as September 4, 2025, and its current news page says the game is available on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The original Switch version remains an option for players who do not own the newer console. Nintendo’s US product listing and Nintendo Canada’s availability announcement establish those platform details.
What does the Switch 2 edition add?
Nintendo describes the Switch 2 version as offering higher resolution, improved frame rates, and additional effects. Its US store listing also notes 120 Hz output on compatible TVs. Nintendo does not provide measured frame-rate figures in these listings, so the stated enhancements should not be read as a particular resolution or guaranteed frame rate.
Can original Switch owners upgrade?
Nintendo Canada lists a free Switch 2 upgrade pack and says an internet connection is required for the update. That is a Canada-specific store detail; check the Nintendo store for your region for current eligibility and entitlement terms before purchasing or downloading.

What is Silksong about?
Silksong is a full-scale sequel to Hollow Knight. Hornet, princess-protector of Hallownest, is captured and taken to the unfamiliar kingdom of Pharloom. She explores the land, fights its inhabitants, and undertakes a pilgrimage toward its peak. Team Cherry has explained that Hornet’s adventure was initially planned as DLC, but grew too large and distinct to remain an add-on. Team Cherry’s reveal announcement describes that change in scope.
What kind of game is it?
Nintendo describes exploration, acrobatic combat, craftable weapons, traps and mechanisms, and quests. Its US product listing advertises more than 200 foes and more than 40 bosses, as well as Steel Soul mode and an orchestral score by Christopher Larkin. Nintendo’s separate Canadian availability page instead refers to over 150 all-new foes; these are different descriptions on separate Nintendo pages, not a single reconciled count.
