Complete the “Trials of Merlin” quest to unlock them, then use Mallowsweet Leaves to activate each puzzle. The puzzles use eight recurring patterns, and Exploration Challenge milestones add gear-storage slots when you claim them in the Challenges menu. Complete all 95 for the Merlin’s Beard! trophy or achievement.
How to unlock, start, and track Merlin Trials
- Complete the “Trials of Merlin” quest to unlock the activity.
- Find a Merlin Trial marker and activate it with Mallowsweet Leaves.
- Use Revelio to reveal nearby puzzle objects, then identify which of the eight recurring patterns you have encountered.
- To track progress, zoom out on the world map and check the region counter for trials found and completed. Trials become marked as you approach them.
None of the trials are missable; you can complete them during post-story free roam.
Getting Mallowsweet Leaves
You can grow Mallowsweet at potting tables in the Room of Requirement or Hogwarts Greenhouse. PowerPyx says the seed recipe is sold by The Magic Neep in Hogsmeade. The guide estimates that seven potting tables produce 35 leaves every ten minutes; treat that as its stated cultivation figure, not a separately verified yield. PowerPyx’s Merlin Trials guide has the cultivation details.
Merlin Trial locations by region
PowerPyx reports 95 trials in total across these 13 regions. Its guide numbers the trials by region and provides map imagery; use those maps or the in-game map for exact locations rather than relying on the region counts alone.
