Accept Pinmaster Plinney’s Pinmaster’s Oil Wish in Bellhart after receiving his first Needle Upgrade and before handing him any Pale Oil. The Wish is reported to be missable if you deliver the oil first. You can obtain Pale Oil in northeast Choral Chambers, from Loyal Mergwin’s Great Taste of Pharloom Wish, or from the Flea Caravan’s Ecstasy of the End Wish. Bring a gland back to Plinney to receive the Shining Needle upgrade.
How to start Pinmaster’s Oil
- Receive your first Needle Upgrade from Pinmaster Plinney in Bellhart.
- Speak to Plinney again and accept the Pinmaster’s Oil Wish before giving him any Pale Oil. The quest’s objective is to retrieve Pale Oil from the Citadel. The community quest page describes the Wish and its objective.
Timing matters: if you hand Plinney Pale Oil before accepting the Wish, the Wish is reported as missable. The cited guide says that receiving the second Needle Upgrade can still grant the Silk and Soul Quest Point even if you missed the Wish. That missability detail is community-reported, not confirmed by official patch documentation.
Where to find Pale Oil
There are three reported ways to obtain Pale Oil. These are alternatives; the available guides do not establish a reliable ranking by difficulty or time.

For the Choral Chambers option, use the northeast-area and adjoining-room clues rather than assuming a turn-by-turn route: the cited sources do not establish a fully checked room-by-room path. Plinney’s dialogue points to the oil’s origin: “Lost within that fortress above, the fabled oil of my profession… Such sharpness one could achieve…” This is in-game dialogue attributed to Plinney, not a developer statement. The quest page records the line.

Return the oil to Plinney
Once you have a Pale Oil gland, take it to Pinmaster Plinney in Bellhart and give it to him to complete the Wish. The reward upgrades the Sharpened Needle to the Shining Needle. The community quest page also reports that Plinney can make further Needle upgrades when you bring other Pale Oil glands, in exchange for Rosaries; those additional upgrades are separate from completing this Wish.
