In SteamDB’s comparison of games carrying Steam’s user-applied “Indie” tag, that is the second-highest all-time peak, behind Palworld. It is not the second-highest peak across all Steam games: SteamDB’s overall all-time chart listed Silksong at No. 18 when checked on October 8, 2026.
What was Silksong’s peak Steam player count?
SteamDB records a peak of 587,150 concurrent players for Hollow Knight: Silksong on September 6, 2025, two days after its Steam release on September 4. “Concurrent” means players active at the same time on Steam; it is not a count of everyone who has played the game, copies sold, or players across all platforms. SteamDB’s Silksong charts are the source for the peak. Valve does not operate SteamDB, which says it is not affiliated with Steam or Valve.
Steam lists Team Cherry as the game’s developer and publisher and includes the “Indie” tag on its store page.
Is Silksong the second-biggest indie game on Steam?
By all-time peak concurrent players among games carrying Steam’s “Indie” tag, yes: SteamDB’s comparison places Silksong second, behind Palworld, whose listed peak is 2,101,867. This comparison uses the historical-peak values, not the live-player ordering of SteamDB’s chart. The chart was checked on October 8, 2026; rankings and the games included can change as Steam’s tags and records change.

That is a specific, reproducible way to interpret “indie,” not a universal industry classification. Steam tags are user-applied, and the tag-based comparison should not be read as a definitive ranking of every independently developed game. The precise claim is that Silksong has the second-highest peak among games tagged “Indie” in SteamDB’s comparison.
Where does Silksong rank among all Steam games?
SteamDB’s separate all-time peak chart listed Silksong at No. 18 overall when checked October 8, 2026. That ranking covers a different comparison set from the Indie-tag chart, so it does not conflict with the game’s second-place position in the tag-based subset. SteamDB updates its charts over time, making the rank a dated snapshot; the recorded September 2025 peak is a historical figure unless the underlying data is corrected.

Later additions can also shift the overall list. For example, Slay the Spire 2 entered the top 20 by the reviewed 2026 snapshot, but its listed peak remained below Silksong’s. SteamDB’s all-time peak chart shows the overall comparison.

A concurrent-player peak answers how many people were playing on Steam simultaneously at one moment. It does not measure unique players or sales, and it excludes activity on other platforms. For a separate, broader measure, Video Game Insights / Sensor Tower estimated in an October 2025 report that Silksong had sold 7.8 million units across Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation; the report also estimated 25.5 hours of average playtime and 81.4% positive Steam reviews. These are analyst estimates, not figures disclosed by Valve, and they should not be compared directly with SteamDB’s concurrent-player count.
