Stelle and Caelus are the female and male presentations of the Trailblazer, and HoYoverse says the gender choice cannot be changed after you make the initial selection. The official character reference does not establish a gameplay advantage for either one.
What is the difference between Stelle and Caelus?
They are the two gender presentations of the Trailblazer, the protagonist who boards the Astral Express. HoYoverse’s official Trailblazer reference describes the character as “A boy/girl who boarded the Astral Express” and lists the Trailblazer under the Astral Express faction.
Design and presentation
Stelle and Caelus have different character designs and on-screen presentation. Which one looks better is a matter of taste; the official reference does not identify one as the preferred or canonical choice.
Voice acting
The official reference lists separate voice performers for each presentation. In English, it currently credits Shaun Mendum for Caelus and Chloe Eves for Stelle; it also lists separate performers for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. If voice acting is the deciding factor, consider the language you play in and check the in-game credits for current cast information.

Does choosing Stelle or Caelus affect gameplay?
The official reference associates the Trailblazer with the same faction and lists the same Paths—Destruction, Preservation, Harmony, and Remembrance—without distinguishing the male and female presentations. It does not provide a complete comparison of combat stats, animations, movement, or dialogue. The available evidence therefore does not support choosing one for a gameplay-strength advantage, nor does it establish that every detail is identical.
Can you change your choice later?
No. HoYoverse Support states: “The Trailblazer’s gender cannot be changed after the initial selection.” The answer was updated October 23, 2025, in its Trailblazer gender support article. Treat the selection as permanent for the account rather than something you can switch later.

How to decide
- Choose Stelle if you prefer her design and the voice performance in your chosen language.
- Choose Caelus if you prefer his design and the voice performance in your chosen language.
- If you are deciding on strength alone, there is no supported basis here for preferring one.
Players do ask whether switching means starting over; for example, a May 2025 HoYoLAB post asks whether a player who wants to change their main character has to begin again. That post is a community question, not an official account-recovery or switching policy. HoYoverse’s support guidance establishes that the gender choice itself cannot be changed after the initial selection.
