Most combine weapon-specific loot with more dependable sources such as map crates, class abilities, shops, spawn grants, or kill-triggered drops. To resupply efficiently, identify the ammo category your weapon uses, then choose the source whose reliability, cost, cooldown, and team coverage fit the current mode.
What an ammo drop actually is
An ammo drop is any ammunition awarded during a match without being part of the magazine already loaded in your weapon. The award can come from a loose pickup, a container, an eliminated player, a map spawner, a deployable box, a shop purchase, a class ability, a respawn package, or a kill-triggered brick. These systems answer two different design needs: keeping a player supplied enough to continue fighting and making ammunition control a meaningful part of movement, combat, and team play.

Games usually sort ammunition by a weapon family or by a broad class. A pickup only helps when it matches the weapon category the game assigns to your gun. A visually similar box can therefore be useless for your current loadout. Competitive modes may also make ammunition a deliberate pacing tool, while battle royales make scavenging and inventory choices part of survival.

- What category does the weapon use? Check whether the game uses a caliber or color family, a weapon-group pool, or Primary, Special, and Heavy classes.
- Which source is reliable right now? A random container is less certain than a guaranteed bag, crate, shop, or documented spawn grant.
- What must you spend or risk? Reaching a known location costs time, a shop costs cash, a class ability costs a cooldown, and a kill-triggered drop usually requires winning another engagement.
- Who receives the ammunition? Some sources affect only the player, some refill the current loadout, and some serve every nearby teammate.
- When does the source return? A pickup is generally one-time, while a cooldown, respawn, or map-spawner refill creates another opportunity later.
Apex Legends: category-matched loot and hard limits
Ammo families
EA’s weapons guide lists Light, Heavy, Energy, Shotgun, Sniper, Mythic, and Arrows ammunition. Each weapon uses one specific type, so carrying the wrong category does not increase the weapon’s reserve. In normal play, read the weapon’s ammo indicator and match the pickup’s type and color before taking space in your inventory.

Where replenishment comes from
Apex places ammunition in ordinary ground loot, Supply Bins, and bins created when a player is eliminated. Those sources make routing and looting speed important: a known bin can be safer than searching an open area, while an eliminated-player bin may require crossing a contested fight site. The drop is still only useful if it belongs to one of your equipped weapons.
The Mythic exception
EA explicitly states that “Mythic ammo can’t be replenished or dropped.” That is a rule exception, not a reason to assume every unusual weapon has unlimited or regenerating ammunition. Some energy weapons instead carry a stockpile that regenerates over time; their behavior is tied to the individual weapon, so rely on the in-game indicator rather than on the color alone.
Battlefield REDSEC: class support and loadout-wide resupply
Shared weapon-group ammunition
EA describes REDSEC ammunition as shared within broad weapon categories such as Assault Rifles, SMGs, and LMGs rather than being separated by every real-world caliber. This lets a category pickup support multiple weapons in that family, but it still does not mean every gun can use every round.

Support Class Supply Bag
The Support Class Supply Bag provides multiple magazines, clips, or shells for the exact weapon being used. It is a dependable answer when a squad needs ammunition during an engagement because the bag is designed around the recipient’s current weapon rather than an uncertain floor pickup. The exact amount and availability can change with the mode or a live-service update, so do not treat an unstated quantity as a permanent rule.

Ammo Resupply Call-In
The Ammo Resupply Call-In is a special crate dropped from the sky. It grants full ammunition to all weapons in the current loadout. Compared with a personal pickup, its strength is certainty and breadth: a player can refill both carried weapons at once. The trade-off is exposure while waiting for or reaching an aerial drop, and the call-in’s availability depends on the mode’s rules.
Call of Duty: Warzone and multiplayer
Warzone Supply Boxes
Opening a Warzone Supply Box releases a handful of items that can include weapons, ammunition, killstreaks, gas masks, and cash. Because the contents are a mix rather than a guaranteed ammo grant, boxes are an opportunity, not a promise. Search several containers when safe, and verify the ammo category before replacing a useful item in your inventory.
Buy Stations as the dependable option
Buy Stations separate uncertain scavenging from reliable spending. With enough cash, a player can purchase equipment and loadout items through the station’s menu. The station therefore converts an economic advantage into a predictable resupply or setup, but it also forces a team to travel to a fixed point and spend resources that could have been saved for another purchase. Menu contents and prices are mode- and update-dependent; consult the current in-game listing instead of assuming a historic price.
Multiplayer Supply Box Field Upgrade
Blizzard describes the multiplayer Supply Box Field Upgrade as deploying “a box of ammo and equipment for you and your teammates.” It recharges over time and explodes when shot. This creates a repeatable team loop: place it when allies can safely reach it, use the contents, then wait for the recharge rather than expecting a new box immediately. Its vulnerability to gunfire means an exposed placement can be destroyed before the team benefits.

Destiny 2: a three-tier ammunition economy
Primary, Special, and Power
Bungie’s player guide divides ammunition into Primary, Special, and Heavy/Power classes. Primary ammo is unlimited. Special and Power ammo are limited and can appear in the world or at Rally flags. This taxonomy is different from a color-coded caliber system: the key decision is which slot the weapon occupies and how scarce that class is in the activity.
How limited ammo is generated
Bungie says Special and Power ammunition can be generated by defeating enemies. The amount is affected by weapon-generation statistics, armor mods, and activity modifiers. Those variables mean two players can experience different drop rates with otherwise similar weapons, and an activity can intentionally make a class more or less available. Use Rally flags and visible drops as planned refills, not as evidence that limited ammo is unlimited.
Crucible’s Blended system
For Crucible, Bungie described a Blended ammunition system. Players spawn with one kill’s worth of Special ammo; a Primary-weapon final blow drops a personal brick worth one kill’s ammunition; and crates provide one kill’s worth. The brick is personal, so another player cannot simply take the reward generated for you. Bungie’s published 2024 comparison found that Special weapons accounted for 24.3% of kills under “Respawn (Original)” and 14.9% under “Blended.” Those percentages describe Bungie’s reported systems and period, not a universal ratio for every Crucible mode or later update.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe practical consequence is a deliberate loop: spawn with a limited reserve, use it for a high-value fight, then earn the next personal brick with a Primary final blow or contest a crate. A player who spends Special ammunition without planning the next source can be forced back onto Primary weapons until the system grants another opportunity.

Halo Infinite: map control through replenishing spawners
Halo Support states that “All item spawners and ammo crates on the map will replenish.” Unlike a one-time eliminated-player pickup, a known map location remains strategically valuable after it has been emptied. Teams can track the refill rhythm, protect a crate, and return after it becomes available again. The exact timing and contents are mode-specific, so use the current match’s indicators and rules rather than importing a timer from another playlist.
How the systems differ
| Game | Ammo taxonomy | Most dependable documented sources | Access cost or risk | Typical team scope | Reset behavior |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apex Legends | Weapon-specific Light, Heavy, Energy, Shotgun, Sniper, Mythic, and Arrows | Matching ground loot, Supply Bins, and eliminated-player bins | Looting time and exposure; Mythic ammo cannot be replenished or dropped | Personal inventory | One-time pickups; some energy weapons regenerate a stockpile |
| Battlefield REDSEC | Shared weapon groups such as Assault Rifles, SMGs, and LMGs | Support Class Supply Bag; Ammo Resupply Call-In | Class availability or the exposure of reaching a sky-dropped crate | Exact weapon through the bag; all weapons in the current loadout through the call-in | Ability/call-in availability; exact timer not stated |
| Call of Duty: Warzone | Weapon and mode-defined ammunition categories | Supply Boxes for chance; Buy Stations for cash-based reliability | Container risk or cash expenditure and travel to a station | Usually the purchasing player or squad’s equipment plan | Container is consumed; station access persists while available |
| Call of Duty multiplayer | Weapon and mode-defined categories | Supply Box Field Upgrade | Cooldown and vulnerability because the box explodes when shot | Player and teammates | Recharges over time |
| Destiny 2 | Primary, Special, and Heavy/Power | World drops, Rally flags, enemy generation, Crucible bricks, and crates | Limited classes, activity rules, and combat needed for some drops | Personal bricks; flags and crates follow activity rules | Spawn grant, kill-triggered brick, crate, or activity-specific reset |
| Halo Infinite | Weapon-associated map ammunition | Known item spawners and map ammo crates | Movement and contesting a location | Player who reaches the pickup | Map spawners and crates replenish; timing not stated |
A practical resupply decision tree
1. Confirm the weapon’s class
Look at the weapon HUD, inventory label, or color/category indicator. In Apex, match the listed ammo family. In Destiny 2, determine whether the weapon consumes Primary, Special, or Power. In REDSEC, check the weapon group and whether a Support bag is supplying the exact gun.
2. Use certainty before convenience
If a guaranteed bag, crate, Rally flag, or resupply call-in is available, it is generally a better first choice than opening an unknown container. In Warzone, a Buy Station is the predictable alternative when the team has cash. In Halo Infinite, rotate toward a known replenishing spawner rather than wandering for random loot.

3. Match the source to the team’s state
A personal pickup solves one player’s shortage. REDSEC’s full-loadout call-in and multiplayer’s Supply Box Field Upgrade are better when several teammates are low. A Destiny 2 personal Crucible brick cannot be treated as a squad-wide stockpile, while a Rally flag follows the activity’s shared rules.

- Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
- 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).

- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
4. Account for the reset
Do not wait for a source that has no documented refresh in the current mode. A consumed bin may require another location; a Field Upgrade requires its recharge; a Crucible brick requires the relevant final blow; and a Halo spawner or crate requires its map refill. Patch notes and mode guides take precedence over old timer claims.
Common mistakes and fixes
- Picking up the wrong ammunition: Recheck the weapon category before spending inventory space.
- Assuming every crate is guaranteed: Warzone Supply Boxes contain a handful of mixed items, so keep a backup route.
- Ignoring team scope: Place team-serving boxes where allies can reach them, and do not expect a personal Destiny brick to refill someone else.
- Saving a cooldown until after the fight: In multiplayer, deploy the Supply Box while the team can safely use it; a box destroyed by gunfire provides no sustained value.
- Importing rules between modes: Battle royale, arena, campaign, and competitive playlists can use different quantities, timers, and spawn behavior.
- Treating old numbers as permanent: Live-service updates can change stack sizes, crate contents, and distribution. Verify the current official mode guide before relying on a quoted figure.
Why developers use several resupply loops
Random loot creates movement and uncertainty. Guaranteed bags and crates reward map knowledge and teamwork. Shops turn cash into a strategic advantage. Class abilities let a squad create its own temporary safe point, while cooldowns stop constant free refills. Spawn grants and kill-triggered bricks regulate how quickly powerful weapons re-enter a fight. Replenishing map spawners make territory valuable even after the first pickup. Combining these loops lets a game support both improvisation and planning without making every weapon permanently full.
The result is a genre where “more ammo” is not one mechanic. It is a set of rules about category matching, reliability, cost, ownership, and reset timing. Learn those five properties for the specific game and playlist, and an empty reserve becomes a solvable routing decision rather than a surprise.
