That figure counts installs across its portfolio, not 8 billion individual players: people can reinstall games, including when they replace a phone. Co-founder Dmitry Yaminsky attributed the growth to an early move into hyper-casual games, internal expertise, experimentation, portfolio diversification and acquisitions—not to any one factor alone.
What the 8 billion milestone means
Azur Games announced the milestone on 1 December 2023. Its figure refers to cumulative installs of its games, rather than unique people. As Yaminsky noted in a GamesBeat interview, players may reinstall a game, for example after changing phones. The company has a broad portfolio, so the total should be read as installs across its games, not as a count of players.
The figure is a company-reported milestone; the available sources do not establish an independent audit of it. Azur’s About page says it surpassed 11 billion downloads in 2026, and its homepage lists 11B+ total installs and 275M+ monthly active users. Those, too, are company figures, not independent rankings. The pages do not explain precisely how the later download figure relates to the 2023 install count, and downloads or installs should not be treated as unique players.
How Azur’s co-founder explained the growth
Yaminsky described a combination of timing, capabilities and portfolio decisions in the GamesBeat interview. He said: “First off, we tapped into the hyper-casual segment at just the right moment, dedicating substantial efforts to building and refining our internal expertise.” That is the co-founder’s account of the company’s growth, not an independently established causal breakdown.

Entering hyper-casual and building expertise
Azur moved into hyper-casual games when, in Yaminsky’s view, the opportunity was favorable. He said the company invested in developing the in-house knowledge to make and improve games in the segment. That capability gave it a base for experimentation and iteration as its portfolio grew.
Experimenting and diversifying
Yaminsky also pointed to experimentation and diversification. He said Azur anticipated that the pandemic-era boom would eventually pass, making a portfolio less dependent on one moment or format important. This is his explanation of the company’s approach; the interview does not quantify how much each activity contributed to the install total.

Acquiring games and assets
Two 2023 announcements illustrate how acquisitions expanded the portfolio. On 18 October, Azur said it had acquired Tastypill’s existing hyper-casual game assets and related intellectual property, while Tastypill would continue independently developing new casual games. On 3 November, Azur said it had taken over Good Job Games’ hyper-casual projects and would operate and develop those titles. The announcements describe purchases of assets or projects—not acquisitions of the entire companies or their teams. They show one route to adding games, but do not establish that acquisitions alone drove the 8 billion figure.
Why Azur said its strategy was changing
In the 2023 interview, Yaminsky described a market where installs were not growing as quickly as the number of new game releases. In his account, downloads were spread across more titles, making it harder to launch hits. He also said advertising effectiveness and eCPM were weaker challenges for hyper-casual games at that time. These are interview-era observations, not a current assessment of the 2026 market.

The company would also continue developing the acquired hyper-casual games. Yaminsky emphasized improved visuals, more content and progression, performance optimization and longer-term operation. This describes the company’s position in the interview, not necessarily its exact current genre mix.

AWS reported that Azur migrated 120 TB of active game telemetry to ClickHouse Cloud on AWS in early 2024. The AWS case study, published 16 July 2024, presents this as a vendor/customer account. Azur’s Lead Solution Architect, Vladimir Rudev, said, “At some point we understood that it just takes too much time and effort.” He described the result as: “First, the overall system became simpler, faster, and more reliable.” These reported outcomes are not independent benchmark results, but the migration illustrates the data infrastructure involved in operating games at scale.
