The Sims 4 Growing Together adds infant milestones and additional gameplay around this stage. It is not required to have infants or to age an infant into a toddler. If you own only the base game, you still have the core life-stage progression.
Do infants age automatically?
Automatic aging is controlled by the game’s Auto Age setting. With Auto Age enabled, an infant remains in the infant stage for the number of Sim days associated with the selected lifespan and then receives a birthday transition into toddlerhood. If Auto Age is disabled, the automatic birthday does not occur, so you must turn aging back on or use a manual method.

How to age up an infant early with a birthday cake
The cake method is the straightforward manual alternative to waiting. It uses normal gameplay rather than a cheat and requires an older Sim to assist the infant.
- Bake a cake. Have an older Sim prepare a cake using the cooking interactions available in your household.
- Add birthday candles. Select the finished cake and choose the interaction that adds birthday candles. If the option is missing, make sure the cake is complete and available to be selected in the world rather than still being prepared.
- Use an older Sim to help. Select the infant and look for the interaction that tells an older Sim to help blow out the candles. EA forum guidance confirms that an older Sim can perform this assistance because an infant cannot handle the candle-blowing interaction alone.
- Choose the birthday interaction. Direct the older Sim to carry out the help-blow-out-candles action. The infant then completes the birthday sequence and transitions to the toddler stage.
Interaction wording can vary with platform, language, and updates. Look for the equivalent of Help Blow Out Candles rather than expecting every interface to use exactly the same capitalization. If you have several Sims nearby, select the infant first so the game presents infant-specific options, then select the older Sim when the assistance interaction is requested.

Why the cake route is usually the best manual option
The cake does not require editing the household in Create-a-Sim and keeps the birthday visible as an in-world event. It is also easier to undo in your planning: you can leave the infant in the current life stage until the cake is ready, then start the transition when the household has time to handle the new toddler. The trade-off is that you must complete several interactions and have an older Sim available to help.
Can cheats age up an infant?
Yes. PC Gamer describes a second route that uses testing cheats and Create-a-Sim’s full edit mode to change the infant’s age. This is an alternative for players who cannot or do not want to arrange a cake birthday.
- Enable testing cheats using the procedure appropriate to your platform.
- Enter Create-a-Sim with the household-editing option that enables full editing.

The exact cheat activation, key combination, and menu wording can differ between PC, console, and game versions. What to check when an infant does not age up

The cake interaction is unavailable
Verify that the cake is finished and has birthday candles, then select the infant and an older Sim. The assistance interaction belongs to the older Sim’s action, not an infant acting independently. If the wording differs, look for the equivalent help-with-candles command. Interface names can change across platforms and updates.

A cheat step does not match your screen
Do not assume a PC command or keyboard shortcut works identically on a console. Testing-cheat activation and full-edit controls are platform-dependent. If the sequence does not match, cancel rather than making unrelated CAS changes, return to a safe save, and use the cake method instead.
Planning an infant birthday
Players who want a story-driven household can simply leave Auto Age on and let the infant’s lifespan determine the birthday. Short works for a fast-generation challenge, while Long gives more room for players who want to spend additional in-game days in the infant stage. If you need the toddler stage for a particular household plan, the cake lets you choose the moment without changing the global lifespan. Prepare the cake when the older Sim is available, complete the assisted candle interaction, and then handle the toddler’s new needs. If you need an immediate transition and understand the risks of editing, full CAS mode is the faster but more technical option.
Does Growing Together control whether babies age up?
No. The base game includes the newborn, infant, and toddler progression through the free update described by EA. Growing Together expands what infants can do, including milestones and additional interactions, but it is not necessary for an infant to age automatically or to use a birthday cake. Owning the expansion changes the amount of infant-focused content, not the basic requirement for aging up.
