Living Sims can start one as Young Adults, keep up to four active goals, and check it in the Aspirations Panel. Completing goals advances Soul’s Journey, and goals left unfinished when a Sim dies can carry over as Unfinished Business for their Ghost.
What Bucket Lists are—and who can use them
Electronic Arts describes Soul’s Journey as a system that brings together Aspirations, Wants, Bucket Lists, and Ghosts’ Unfinished Business. It requires the Life & Death Expansion Pack. A living Sim can have a Bucket List from the Young Adult through Elder life stages; Infants, Toddlers, Children, and Teens cannot have one. The list holds up to four goals at a time, according to EA Help’s Soul’s Journey guide.
How to view your Sim’s Bucket List
- Enter Live Mode.
- Open the Aspirations Panel in the bottom-right corner of the screen. The panel shows the Bucket List and Soul’s Journey progress.
- Hover over Soul’s Journey tiers to inspect the rewards associated with progression.
How to add and manage goals
You can choose goals using a computer or journal, or allow the game to generate them as your Sim plays. Automatic suggestions can reflect the Sim’s Traits, Aspiration, career, relationships, and lifestyle; for example, a Sim with the Romantic Trait is more likely to receive a goal in the “I wanna Get Busy!” category. Goal choices vary by Sim, player actions, and the packs installed, so two Sims need not see the same options.
Use a computer or journal
Interact with a computer or journal to find these Bucket List options:
#1 Best Overall
- Wonder at treasures that have endured time’s passing, witnessing the comeand go of generations with ghastly grace.
- Build your Bucket List by collecting goals throughout your Sim’s life, startingas a Young Adult. Items will appear on your list based on your Sim’s traits andfamily relations, and you can also choose your own.
- Make death your life’s work with a career of reaping souls, helping Ghosts, dispersing hauntings, and more as a member of Grim’s team. Or, you couldbecome a Mortician and deal with death more from the perspective of theliving.
- The veil between life and death is thin in Ravenwood. Visit the countryside and perhaps take a swim by the mysterious face in the cliffs. Or, head into the village where you’ll find some odd goods forpurchase near the old Specter cemetery.
- Write Goal: Adds a goal shaped by the Sim’s relationships, personality, Traits, and Aspiration. This option is unavailable when all four slots are occupied.
- Write Goal from Category: Lets you select a broad category, such as Adventure, Great Family, or Create.
- Write the Perfect Goal: Becomes available after certain life experiences. EA lists attending an Afterlife Anonymous meeting, recently witnessing another Sim die, or having the Chased by Death Trait as qualifying conditions.
- Scrap Bucket List: Clears the goals currently on the list.
Choose a category or let the game suggest one
EA lists these categories: “I want Adventure!”, “I want to Travel!”, “I wanna Party!”, “I wanna Get Busy!”, “I want a Great Family!”, “I want Success!”, “I want to Create!”, and “I want…Something else?” They are broad themes, not a guarantee of identical goal choices. Some goals depend on owning another pack: EA gives “I want to climb a mountain!” as an example requiring Snowy Escape. The game only offers goals from packs you own.
Make room for another goal
Completing a goal does not automatically add a replacement. Once a slot is free, use the computer or journal to add another goal, or continue playing and let the game populate the list over time.

- An Endless Journey — Build your Bucket List by collecting goals throughout your Sim’s life, starting as a Young Adult.
- A Ghastly, Gorgeous Life — Make death your life’s work with a career as a member of Grim’s team.
- Goodbye (For Now) — Different Sims will grieve in different ways. There are 4 types that will tie in with both Sims’ personalities and their relationships with the deceased.
- Friendly or Fiendish? — Linger on as a Ghost and spend your afterlife helping or terrorizing the living.
- A Town Worth Haunting — The veil between life and death is thin in Ravenwood, a three-neighborhood town.
How Bucket Lists advance Soul’s Journey
Completing a Bucket List goal contributes progress to Soul’s Journey and gives the Sim a positive Moodlet. It is one of several ways to fill the Soul’s Journey bar: Aspiration tiers, Wants, New Year’s Resolutions from Seasons, and Midlife Crisis goals from Growing Together can contribute too. You do not have to complete every Bucket List goal to make progress.

When a Sim dies and becomes a Ghost, their Bucket List becomes Unfinished Business. Goals left incomplete in life carry over, and the Ghost can also receive or add Ghost-specific goals. Some living goals cannot be completed after death—for instance, having a child—while Ghost goals can include renewing vows, comforting living family, or scaring a former nemesis. Ghost Teens can have Unfinished Business even though living Teens cannot have Bucket Lists.

Move On, remain a Ghost, or pursue Rebirth
Ghosts may choose to Move On, remain playable, or pursue Rebirth when they meet the required Soul’s Journey tier. EA Help says Dreams Fulfilled unlocks the ability to experience Rebirth. The later, Ghost-only Big Picture tier awards the Burning Soul Trait and additional benefits; those rewards are distinct from the Rebirth option itself. EA’s Life & Death announcement also describes the expansion’s Soul’s Journey feature.
