Why Helldivers 2 suits a multiplayer award
The game’s central appeal is the contrast between scale and intimacy. The war stretches across a fictional universe, giving players the sense that their missions contribute to a larger effort. But each operation is also a small cooperative challenge: a squad has to work together, and surviving or completing an objective can feel like a victory of its own. Insider Gaming’s account points to that combination of shared purpose and personal or team triumph as a defining strength.
What kind of multiplayer game it is
Arrowhead Game Studios describes Helldivers 2 as a multiplayer co-op shooter. Its official site invites players to join with up to three friends, while the studio’s FAQ says a squad can have up to four players. That makes the award relevant to players looking for cooperative squad play rather than a competitive multiplayer ranking. Platforms and one PC control note
Arrowhead’s FAQ lists Steam and PlayStation 5. Because that FAQ listing may not be exhaustive or reflect later platform changes, check a current official store listing for availability in your region before buying. The FAQ also says DualSense haptics are supported on PC when Steam Input is disabled before launching the game. A DualSense controller is not described as a requirement.

PlayStation ran a separate audience-voted awards program in 2024. PlayStation.Blog reported that its Game of the Year polls received over 1.6 million votes globally; that figure belongs to PlayStation’s polls and says nothing about the size or result of Insider Gaming’s community vote.
