During Team Vitality’s 2025 VCT EMEA Kickoff upper-bracket final against Team Heretics, Nikita “Derke” Sirmitev used Yoru’s clone to disguise his own advance on Haven. The reported play earned him two kills and helped Vitality convert a bonus round; it was one moment in a series Vitality won 2–0.
What did Derke do with Yoru’s clone?
On Haven, both teams had Yoru in the match. According to Insider Gaming’s February 7, 2025 report, Derke moved forward as if he were the clone, catching Heretics off guard. Heretics player Boo teleported next to him before Derke turned and secured two kills. The report describes the play as part of a bonus-round conversion.
The available account does not establish the exact frame-by-frame sequence or sightlines, and Derke has no documented explanation of his thinking in the cited coverage. The disguise’s tactical logic, however, follows from how the ability works: opponents have to decide whether to shoot the approaching figure or hold their fire.
How does Yoru’s fake clone work in VALORANT?
Riot’s official Yoru agent page describes the ability: “EQUIP an echo that transforms into a mirror image of Yoru when activated FIRE to instantly activate the mirror image and send it forward ALT FIRE to place an inactive echo USE to transform an inactive echo into a mirror image and send it forward. Mirror images explode in a blinding flash when destroyed by enemies.”

That creates a tactical dilemma for an opponent facing an approaching Yoru figure:
- Shoot it: If it is the mirror image, destroying it triggers a blinding flash.
- Hold fire: If it is the real Yoru, waiting can give him room to close the distance.
Derke’s reported move exploited that uncertainty by presenting his advance as the clone’s. This is an interpretation of the reported play and the ability’s mechanics, not a direct statement from Derke about his intent.

When did Vitality play Heretics at EMEA Kickoff?
The play took place in the upper-bracket final of the 2025 VCT EMEA Kickoff. Vitality beat Heretics on Haven 13–10, then won Heretics’ map pick, Abyss, 13–1, to sweep the series. VLR.gg’s February 7, 2025 match recap says the result secured Vitality the first EMEA slot at Masters Bangkok.
Derke’s two-kill moment was part of the Haven map, not the sole reason Vitality qualified. The series outcome came from the team’s wins across both maps.
