Devsisters became an international company by turning Cookie Run from a mobile runner into a connected franchise: games in several genres, launches and publishing partnerships across regions, and physical formats such as trading cards. The company reported more than 300 million cumulative players across 248 countries and over USD 1 billion in cumulative revenue as of November 2025. Those are Devsisters’ own cumulative figures, not independently verified totals.
How Cookie Run began
Devsisters says it was founded in 2007 and has centered its games and services on Cookie Run. The franchise’s creative premise is simple: a Cookie escapes the Witch’s Oven rather than accept being eaten, and runs toward a better life. The company says that idea carries themes of hope and courage while giving its creators room to translate recognizable parts of the human world into Cookie characters.
In a behind-the-scenes account, CookieRun: Kingdom co-producers Kilhyeon Cho and Eunji Lee recalled that the company began Cookie Run for Kakao in April 2013. They said Devsisters had been close to shutting down in 2012, had downsized by more than half, and had ten team members remaining when they committed to the project. That is the producers’ recollection of the company’s circumstances, rather than an independently verified financial history. Their account also recalls founder Jihoon Lee asking, “Can Cookies contain everything of the human world?” Devsisters’ account of the CookieRun: Kingdom co-producers.
How the franchise expanded across games and markets
Cookie Run started as the mobile runner OvenBreak in 2009, according to Devsisters, then expanded into role-playing, puzzle-adventure, and co-op action games. The range let the franchise reach players through different kinds of gameplay rather than relying on one format. The company’s timeline records both worldwide releases and regional routes to market.

What the company’s scale figures mean
On November 26, 2025, Devsisters reported more than 300 million cumulative players across 248 countries and over USD 1 billion in cumulative revenue for Cookie Run. These are franchise-wide cumulative totals as reported by the company, not annual results or independently verified measures. The company also described different geographic rankings for two different measures: engagement in the preceding year was highest in Korea, followed by the United States, China, Thailand, and Russia; cumulative revenue was highest in the United States, followed by Korea, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and Canada. The rankings should not be read as interchangeable: one concerns recent engagement and the other cumulative revenue. Devsisters’ November 2025 announcement.

Why Cookie Run is extending beyond mobile games
In February 2026, Devsisters described a “CookieRun Universe” strategy to connect the Cookie world and more than 500 characters while allowing individual games to retain their own genres and stories. The company said CookieRun: Kingdom would move into a second story act involving Timekeeper Cookie and crossovers with CookieRun: OvenBreak. These are announced creative directions, not a claim that every planned element has already been released.
The same strategy announcement described projects intended to broaden the franchise’s platforms and formats. Their status and stated timing matter: announced projects are not completed releases.

Devsisters also cited exhibitions, pop-ups, trading cards, esports, and fan festivals as ways to build the franchise’s cultural reach. Its February 2026 announcement reported that merchandise sales in January 2026 were nearly tenfold those in January 2025; that is a company-reported year-over-year comparison for those two months, not a general annual growth rate. Cookie Run’s international growth rests on several reinforcing choices: a premise that can support many character stories, games that differ in genre, and release routes that include both worldwide launches and local publishing partners. Trading cards and live cultural formats extend the franchise beyond screens, while the announced universe strategy aims to make those activities feel connected rather than like unrelated products. The milestones demonstrate expansion; the company’s cumulative figures indicate reported scale, while its 2026 projects remain plans unless and until their release is confirmed.
