To become a Fortnite creator, first decide what you want to make. If you publish Fortnite videos, streams, or social posts and want fans to support you with a creator code, look into Epic’s Support-A-Creator (SAC) program. If you want to build and publish islands inside Fortnite, apply to the Fortnite Developer Program through the Creator Portal. They are separate programs, and you can apply to either or both.

Epic describes SAC as an affiliate marketing program for streamers and social creators covering Fortnite, Rocket League, and applicable Epic Games Store games. The Fortnite Developer Program is specifically for island developers. Joining SAC alone does not qualify you for island publishing or engagement payouts; you must enroll in the Developer Program separately. [Epic Support: program differences]
What do you need to qualify for the Fortnite Developer Program?
Epic’s published guide requires applicants to be at least 18 and meet one of two recent-purchase tests:
- Qualifying Epic Payments purchase: Make a real-money purchase through Epic Payments in the 365 days before applying. The guide names the Epic Games Store, Fab.com, Fortnite.com, and Fortnite on PC. Gift card balance and Epic Account balance purchases do not count.
- Fortnite spending: Spend and redeem at least $20 in Fortnite during the 365 days before applying. In-game purchases and purchases on Fortnite.com qualify, on any platform.
You must also follow the Fortnite Developer Rules. Availability can vary: local laws or payout considerations may make the program unavailable in some regions, and Epic determines eligibility when you apply. How to apply to publish Fortnite islands
- Sign in: Open the Creator Portal and sign in with your Epic Games account.
- Start enrollment: Select Enroll and confirm that you meet the displayed eligibility requirements.
- Review and accept the terms: Read the Developer Program and portal overview, then review and accept the Developer Terms, Community Rules, and Addendum.
- Complete your developer profile: Choose a creator code. This becomes the developer name shown with your published islands. Epic’s guide says codes must be 3–16 characters and may use letters, numbers, underscores, dashes, or dots. The code must comply with Epic’s Community Rules, and changes are limited to once every 12 months.
- Finish enrollment: Complete the remaining prompts to enter the Creator Portal.
From there, use Epic’s documentation for Fortnite Creative or Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) to learn island creation and publishing. Support-A-Creator: purchases using your code
In SAC, supporters can use a creator code on eligible Item Shop purchases made with V-Bucks or real money, and the creator may receive an award. Developer Program: engagement payouts and island transactions
Epic’s engagement payouts are monthly and depend on player engagement. Its stated factors include an island’s popularity and engagement, attracting new players, and other metrics; enrolling does not guarantee income. Epic says 40% of eligible net revenue from Fortnite Item Shop and related real-money purchases is made available for engagement payouts. For in-island transactions, Epic’s FAQ states a standard rate of 50% of V-Bucks value. It also lists a temporary rate of 100% from January 9, 2026 through January 31, 2027. These figures and dates can change, so check the FAQ before relying on them. Epic says engagement payouts are made 30 days after the end of the calendar month. Tax, payout, and regional setup
Real-money payouts require a tax profile and Hyperwallet setup. Epic’s guide says the process includes a tax interview through its external Tax Identity service; U.S. developers receive a W-9 and non-U.S. developers receive a W-8. Depending on country, verification may take up to five business days after the tax interview.
