Sony does not document the PS5 as a Google Cast, Chromecast, or AirPlay receiver, and its HDMI connection is an HDMI OUT port. Use PS Remote Play when you want the PS5 screen on another device; use the TV’s own casting feature, a separate streaming device, an HDMI adapter, or a native PS5 app when you want phone content on your television.
Choose the direction you actually need
“Cast to my PS5” can describe several different tasks. The correct method depends on which device should display the content.

Can you cast directly to a PS5?
There is no general-purpose casting receiver documented for the PS5. An Android Cast button normally searches for a Chromecast, Google TV Streamer, or Google Cast-enabled television, as described by Google’s Cast guidance; it does not normally list a PS5.
Likewise, Sony’s current documentation does not present the PS5 as an AirPlay receiver. To mirror an iPhone or iPad, target an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible television instead. Third-party “PS5 receiver” apps should not be assumed to be reliable, secure, or supported.

The PS5 hardware documentation identifies its connector as HDMI OUT, so the console sends picture and sound to a display rather than accepting an HDMI signal from a phone, laptop, Nintendo Switch, or another console: PS5 Safety Guide.
Use PS Remote Play when you want the PS5 on another device
Remote Play reverses the direction of casting: it streams the PS5 console experience to a phone, tablet, PC, Mac, compatible Android TV device, or supported television. It does not send your phone’s screen into the PS5.
Requirements
- A PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition with current system software and broadband access.
- The free PS Remote Play app on the receiving device.
- A PlayStation account, signed in on both devices.
- A compatible controller, unless your device and game support on-screen controls.
- At least 5 Mbps bandwidth; Sony recommends 15 Mbps or higher for a better experience.
Remote Play performance depends on upload speed at the console, download speed at the receiving device, latency, congestion, and mobile-data conditions. It can use substantially more cellular data than ordinary video streaming; see Sony’s mobile-device guidance.
Enable Remote Play on the PS5
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select System → Remote Play.
- Turn on Enable Remote Play. The menu path is confirmed in Sony’s Remote Play settings instructions.
Allow wake-up from Rest Mode
If the console should wake when you connect remotely, open Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode, then enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network. Sony documents these settings in its Remote Play setup guidance.

Connect from a phone or tablet
- Install PS Remote Play from the relevant app store.
- Open it and sign in with the same PlayStation account used on the PS5.
- Select PS5 and allow the app to search.
- Select your console when it appears.
- If discovery fails, on the PS5 open Settings → System → Remote Play → Pair Device, then enter the displayed number in the app.
Android phones and tablets running Android 9 or later can use on-screen controls. Apple devices require iOS or iPadOS 14 or later for Remote Play; DualSense Bluetooth support begins at iOS/iPadOS 14.5. Check Sony’s current supported-device list for platform details.
Watch phone services on the TV
Install the service on the PS5
If the service has a PS5 version, the simplest route is to run it on the console:
- Open the PS5 home screen and select Media.
- Choose All Apps.
- Search for the service.
- Select Download, then sign in or follow its activation instructions.
Availability depends on your country, account, service agreements, and current PlayStation Store listing. Sony documents this model for Spotify and Apple Music in its PS5 music-app instructions. A mobile app’s Cast or AirPlay button is not a guarantee that the PS5 will appear as a destination.
Cast to the television instead
For phone-only photos, video, or apps, cast directly to a compatible television, Apple TV, Chromecast, or Google TV device. An appropriate phone-to-HDMI adapter is another option. The PS5 can remain connected to the same television, but it is not part of that casting path.

Use Chromecast with Google TV for PS5 games
Chromecast with Google TV can be a Remote Play endpoint connected to a television. It does not add Google Cast receiving capability to the PS5.
Sony’s documented Android TV route supports Android TV OS 12 or later, including Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer (4K): Remote Play on Android TV. You need:
- A supported Android TV device and the PS Remote Play app available in its Google Play environment.
- A PS5 or PS4 and the same PlayStation account.
- A phone for QR-code sign-in.
- A paired DualSense or DUALSHOCK 4 controller.
- At least 5 Mbps bandwidth; 15 Mbps is preferred for better performance.
This setup displays PS5 gameplay on the second television. It does not send YouTube, photos, or an Android screen into the console.

- Use Ethernet for the PS5 where practical and a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection for the receiving device.
- Avoid guest networks that isolate devices, large downloads, and other high-bandwidth activity.
- Remote Play may introduce latency, especially over cellular networks or when the console and receiver are far from their access points.
- Some content is excluded from Remote Play, including titles requiring PlayStation VR or PS VR2, games needing unsupported peripherals, and games that must be streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium. See Sony’s content limitations.
Remote Play is different from PlayStation Plus cloud streaming. Cloud Streaming is a separate Premium feature for selected games and is not a way to cast a phone screen to the PS5: PS5 cloud streaming.

Troubleshoot the common failures
The PS5 does not appear
- Confirm both devices are online and signed in to the same PlayStation account.
- Check Settings → System → Remote Play → Enable Remote Play.
- Update the PS5 system software and Remote Play app.
- Move both devices off isolated guest networks.
- Use Pair Device and enter the console’s code if automatic discovery fails.
- Restart the app, PS5, and router.
Remote Play connects but lags or drops
- Connect the PS5 to the router by Ethernet.
- Move the receiving device closer to the Wi-Fi access point.
- Stop downloads and other high-bandwidth traffic.
- Lower Remote Play video quality or frame rate where those controls are available.
- Try a private home network instead of public or guest Wi-Fi.
- Avoid cellular Remote Play when coverage is unstable or your data allowance is limited.
The Cast or AirPlay icon shows no PS5
That is expected when the app is searching for a compatible receiver. Choose a Chromecast, Google TV device, Apple TV, or compatible television, or install the service directly on the PS5.
Chromecast Remote Play will not start
Verify that the device is Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer, not merely an older Chromecast dongle; confirm Android TV OS 12 or later, app availability, the same PlayStation account, a paired controller, and a stable connection.
What the PlayStation App can—and cannot—do
The PlayStation App supports console pairing, downloads, storage management, game launching, captures, messaging, and related account features. Sony does not document it as a phone-screen mirroring or casting receiver: PlayStation App features.
If you want a dedicated handheld screen for PS5 games, PlayStation Portal is also a Remote Play device, not a receiver for phone content: PlayStation Portal.
The Bottom Line
There is usually no direct phone-to-PS5 casting. Use PS Remote Play for PS5-to-phone or PS5-to-another-TV gameplay; use a native PS5 media app, the television’s own casting receiver, a separate Chromecast/Apple TV device, or HDMI for everything else.
