To change the EA Account connected to your Xbox One, you must unlink the Xbox account from the EA Account currently attached to it, then sign in with the EA Account you want to use. Do this through EA Account settings or, where supported, from inside the EA game—not through normal Xbox console settings.
Before unlinking: EA says progress, points, rewards, items, and other entitlements do not transfer to the replacement EA Account. If you only want a different email address, change the email on your existing EA Account instead.

First, decide what you actually need to change
“Change my EA Account” can mean three different things:
- Change the email address: Keep the same EA Account and update its email. This is normally the safest option because your progress, purchases, friends, and account history stay together.
- Use a different EA Account with the same Xbox profile: Unlink the Xbox account from the current EA Account, then link it to another account.
- Use a different Xbox profile or gamertag: This is a separate issue. EA’s platform-history and lifetime-linking restrictions may prevent an EA Account from accepting a different Xbox account.
Do not delete the old EA Account to solve a linking problem. Deletion can create additional access and entitlement issues.

Before you unlink: important restrictions and risks
- Only one EA Account can be connected to an Xbox account at a time.
- EA says switching may not be available when the Xbox account has been linked for less than one year. If the link is older than one year, you should generally be able to switch, but this is not a guarantee; prior links, disabled accounts, bans, and other account conditions can still interfere. See EA’s linking troubleshooting guidance.
- If an Xbox gamertag is unlinked from an EA Account, a different Xbox gamertag may not later be allowed on that same EA Account. This is a long-term or lifetime platform-association restriction, not a simple sign-out option.
- EA-account progress and entitlements do not move between accounts. Assume that existing progress, saves associated with the EA Account, EA Points, currencies, rewards, inventory, unlocks, subscriptions, and account history will remain tied to the original account unless EA specifically confirms otherwise for your game.
The exact effect varies by title. The warning does not necessarily mean every Xbox save file is erased from the console; it means the newly linked EA Account may not be able to access data validated or stored through the original EA Account. EA documents these consequences in its unlinking guidance.
Check which EA Account is linked to Xbox
- Open EA Account settings.
- Sign in and open Connected Accounts.
- Look for the Xbox connection and its associated gamertag.
If you do not know the EA email address, sign out of EA and choose Continue with Xbox on the EA login page. This can help you locate the EA Account associated with your gamertag. Check that you are not viewing a different EA Account or the separate authorized-apps area.
If the Xbox connection is missing, you may be signed into the wrong EA Account, or the gamertag may be attached to an automatically created or inaccessible account. Use Xbox sign-in again before attempting to unlink anything.

How to unlink the current EA Account
Use this route when you can access the EA Account currently connected to your Xbox profile:
- Go to EA Account settings and sign in.
- Open Connected Accounts.
- Find the Xbox account or gamertag.
- Select Unlink.
- Read EA’s warning carefully.
- Complete identity verification if EA requests it.
- Confirm the unlink only if you accept the possible loss of access to progress and entitlements on the replacement account.
Menu wording and page layout can vary by region and site redesign. EA’s official process is described in its platform unlinking instructions.
How to link a different EA Account on Xbox One
- Start the EA game on Xbox One.
- When the sign-in prompt appears, choose Use another account.
- Continue through the unlinking prompt if the game displays one.
- Enter the email address and password for the EA Account you want to use, or choose Create account if you genuinely need a new account.
- Enter the one-time verification code sent to that EA Account’s email address, if requested.
- Finish signing in, then close and restart the game.
The in-game option is not displayed in every EA title or account state. If it is unavailable, the Connected Accounts method is the more universal route. EA also notes that accounts using the same email address as the console account may connect automatically; otherwise, you may be asked to sign in or confirm the link. What happens to your games, progress, and purchases?
Unlinking changes the account association; it does not merge two EA Accounts. EA says progress does not transfer to the new EA Account, while points, rewards, and items remain on the EA Account to which the Xbox account was originally linked.

- Game-related account history, subscriptions, or benefits.
If you want to preserve current progress, keep using the original EA Account. Reinstalling the game, clearing the Xbox cache, or changing Xbox save settings generally cannot transfer EA-account data to another account. Contact EA before making more account changes if progress is missing.
Why you may be unable to change the EA Account
The Xbox link is less than one year old
EA’s current troubleshooting guidance says switching may not be available when the platform connection is less than one year old. Do not rely on unofficial claims about a shorter fixed waiting period. Even after one year, eligibility is not guaranteed.

The account is not eligible to be unlinked
An error such as “This account is not eligible to be unlinked” means EA is blocking the operation in the current account state. Stop repeatedly retrying it. Confirm that you are using the correct EA Account, check the age of the link, attempt recovery if necessary, and contact EA Help with the exact error message.
The target EA Account has already been used with another Xbox account
An error about an EA Account being linked to only one Xbox account in its lifetime usually indicates that the target account has a prior Xbox association or that EA’s platform-history rules are blocking the new link. EA Support may investigate, but there is no guarantee it can override the restriction or merge the accounts.

EA says child and other limited sub-accounts sharing Xbox or PlayStation subscriptions may not be able to connect to EA Accounts for online play. Age, parental consent, and account-ownership requirements may require EA Support rather than normal self-service unlinking.

The EA Account is disabled, hacked, or inaccessible
Account security or ownership verification can prevent unlinking. Recover the account first where possible. Support may be able to investigate access or linking problems, but it cannot be assumed that EA will move progress or entitlements between accounts.

- Use Continue with Xbox to identify the EA Account attached to your gamertag.
- Try EA’s Forgot password or account-recovery process.
- Check old email addresses, spam folders, and previous EA login messages.
- Secure your Microsoft account by changing its password and reviewing its security activity if you suspect unauthorized access.
- Contact EA Support if the account is disabled, compromised, belongs to someone else, or cannot be recovered.
Do not guess another person’s credentials, create several new EA Accounts, or keep unlinking and relinking while troubleshooting. Have the Xbox gamertag, known EA email addresses, game information, and exact error messages ready. Receipts or screenshots may help establish context, but they do not guarantee recovery or a data transfer.
What if the Xbox is connected to someone else’s EA Account?
This can happen with a used console or Xbox profile, a family member’s login, an old email address, an automatically created EA Account, or a compromised account. First secure the Microsoft account and use Xbox sign-in on EA to identify the connected account. If it is not yours or you cannot access it, contact EA Support rather than trying to guess the other person’s login details.

Should you change the email instead?
If the EA Account currently linked to Xbox is yours and you only want a new email address, update the email on that account. This preserves the account’s progress, purchases, friends, and entitlements. Unlinking is appropriate only when you genuinely need the Xbox profile to use a different EA Account and accept the account-data consequences.
