Microsoft’s documented way to check a family member’s Xbox screen time is Microsoft Family Safety. Sign in as a family organizer, select the family member, choose Xbox, and open the activity or screen-time report. The Xbox must be connected to that person’s Microsoft account, activity reporting must be enabled, and the correct account must be signed in on the console.
Before you start
- The child or family member is part of your Microsoft family group.
- You are signed in with the family organizer account. Microsoft says organizers are the people who can view and manage activity reporting.
- The Xbox is connected to the family member’s Microsoft account.
- Xbox activity reporting is turned on.
- The family member is signed in with that account when using the console.
Family Safety cannot reliably reconstruct Xbox activity from before the device was connected and reporting was enabled.
Check Xbox screen time online
- Go to family.microsoft.com or account.microsoft.com/family.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that has the family organizer role.
- Select the relevant family member’s card.
- Select Xbox or the Xbox activity section.
- Open the activity report or screen-time view.
- Review daily or weekly device usage.
- Open Apps and games (also labeled Apps, features and games in some views) to see reported time for individual games and apps.
Microsoft’s interface labels can vary by browser, language, account type, and software version. If the Xbox platform does not appear, work through the setup checks below.
See Microsoft’s instructions for Family Safety activity reporting.

Yes. In Family Safety’s Apps and games section, a connected report may show which games and apps were used and for how long. This is Family Safety’s usage data—not necessarily the same measurement as a game’s own playtime statistic, achievement history, or profile data.
It also is not automatically a console-wide total across every account. Time played while the relevant person was signed out, or while another person used that person’s still-active account, can produce misleading results.

- Real 8K HDMI certified cable: The HDMI cables pass HDMI 2.1 Certified. The HDMI Cable delivers 10K 8K@60Hz and 4K@240Hz higher resolution, 4 times higher than 4K@60Hz. The advanced technology makes a remarkable improvement in image clarity and sharpness
- 48Gbps ultra high speed: The HDMI 2.1 Cable with 48Gbps bandwidth delivers uncompressed 8K(7680 x 4320) video and high-speed transmission without signal loss. Make it faster 2.6X than HDMI 2.0(18Gbps). The 4K@240Hz HDMI cord also supports variable refresh rates and QFT to decrease “display latency”. Auto low latency mode and quick media switching for movies and video use the HDMI VRR mechanism to eliminate the blackout period when an HDMI Source device switches its video mode
- Dynamic HDR & eARC: This HDMI Cable features Dynamic HDR to let you capture more details with 12-bit color accuracy and get breathtakingly realistic pictures. The function of eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) directly delivers full-resolution audio, like Dolby Atmos, DTS:X from TV to soundbar/AV receiver. Also Support HDCP 2.3/2.2, Ethernet, 3D
- Enhanced durability: Built with a robust aluminum alloy case, nickel-plated connectors, and a durable nylon braided jacket, HDMI cables can withstand more frequent bending tests and decrease rupture without reducing cable flexibility, ensuring enhanced signal transmission performance and a longer lifespan
- Wide compatibility: Compatible with Apple TV/PS5/PS4 Pro/Roku Stick, Xbox Series X/S/Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch/Switch 2, Wii U, Mac mini M4/M4 Pro, Laptop, PC, Blu-ray player, AV Receiver, TV stick, TV Box, DVD player, LG 8K UHD TV, Samsung G8/G9 QLED TV, Soundbar, Projector, Monitor and more
Set limits after checking usage
Reviewing activity and enforcing limits are separate features. Family Safety can set a daily amount of device time, different schedules for different days, Xbox device limits, and limits for individual games or apps.
For a device-wide schedule, select the family member, choose Windows/Xbox/Mobile, select a day, and set the permitted time range or total hours. For a particular game or app, use App and game limits. Those limits can apply across connected Windows, Xbox, and Android devices where supported.

Limits can behave differently from reports: an enforcement limit may continue counting while the person remains signed in, while the activity report may record less idle time.

Why Xbox screen-time numbers may look wrong
- The account was left signed in. If another person uses the Xbox afterward, their activity may be attributed to the signed-in account. Microsoft recommends signing out when leaving the console.
- Idle time is handled differently. A limit can continue counting while the person is signed in, even when the usage report shows little active use.
- The wrong account was used. Confirm that the account connected to Family Safety was the one signed in on Xbox.
- Several accounts were signed in. Make sure each person uses their own account and consider using a PIN for each account.
- Reporting was disabled. No new activity will appear while Xbox reporting is off.
- The Xbox is not properly connected. Check the family member’s connected devices.
- The date or time zone is wrong. Activity can appear under a different day if the Microsoft account’s time-zone setting is incorrect.
- Data has not synchronized yet. Reports may not update immediately, so allow time for the device and Family Safety to synchronize before treating a missing entry as final.

- Confirm that you are a family organizer, not merely someone sharing a Microsoft 365 Family subscription.
- Confirm that the child’s account is correctly included in the Microsoft family group.
- Connect the Xbox to that account using Sign in → Add new.
- Check that the correct account is signed in on the console.
- Turn on Xbox activity reporting in Family Safety.
- Check whether the family member opted out of sharing activity data.
- Review account verification, family-group, and synchronization issues.
- Sign out and back in on Xbox, then check Family Safety again.
“Screen time information is not shared with you”
This message usually points to a permissions or family-group problem. You may not be the organizer, the account may not be properly added to the Family Safety group, or the person may be associated with a Microsoft 365 Family subscription without being part of the relevant family-safety relationship.
Microsoft also says that, in the United States, children aged 13 or older may be able to opt out of sharing usage data with family adults. The applicable age and consent rules can differ by country or region. If reporting was turned off through consent settings, turning it back on may require the child’s consent.

What about checking your own Xbox screen time?
Family Safety is primarily designed for organizer-managed family members and connected supervised accounts. It should not be treated as a guaranteed complete console-wide history for an adult’s personal Xbox account that was never configured for Family Safety.
For personal tracking, use a game’s own documented playtime or profile statistics where available, or a device-tracking feature that specifically supports your setup. Those sources can measure something different from Family Safety’s app and device activity report.
One limitation: web activity reporting
Microsoft’s Family Safety web and search activity reporting requires Microsoft Edge while signed in. That limitation concerns web and search reporting; it does not mean that every Xbox game or app requires Edge to appear in the Xbox activity report. See Microsoft’s web and search filtering guidance.
