How Do I Clear My Epic Games Launcher Cache? Windows and Mac Steps

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fully quit the Epic Games Launcher, delete its webcache folders, and start it again. On Windows, open %localappdata% and go to EpicGamesLauncherSaved; on macOS, use Finder’s Go → Go to Folder… field to open ~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher. These steps clear the Launcher’s web cache, not a game’s installation or a console-wide cache.

Quick reference

Platform Location Delete
Windows %localappdata%EpicGamesLauncherSaved webcache, webcache_4147, and/or webcache_4430 if present
macOS ~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher webcache

Epic says the Launcher can rebuild the required cache files after you relaunch it. See the official Windows and macOS instructions.

Clear the Epic Games Launcher cache on Windows

  1. Exit the Launcher completely. Click the up-arrow in the notification area, right-click the Epic Games icon, and choose Exit. Closing the main window alone may leave the Launcher running.
  2. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
  3. Enter %localappdata% and press Enter.
  4. Open EpicGamesLauncher, then open Saved.
  5. Delete only the cache folders that exist: webcache, webcache_4147, and webcache_4430. Some installations contain only one or two of them.
  6. Start Epic Games Launcher again.

Do not delete the entire Saved folder or unrelated folders in AppData. The documented procedure identifies the named webcache folders specifically.

Clear the Epic Games Launcher cache on macOS

  1. Quit Epic Games Launcher from the macOS menu bar or Dock. Make sure it is no longer running.
  2. Open Finder and choose Go → Go to Folder….
  3. Paste ~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher and press Enter.
  4. Move the webcache folder to the Trash.
  5. Control-click the Trash and choose Empty Trash.
  6. Relaunch Epic Games Launcher.

The Library folder may be hidden when you browse normally, so Finder’s Go to Folder… command is the simplest route.

What clearing this cache can help with

This procedure refreshes temporary web data used by the installed Epic Games Launcher. Epic lists it as a possible remedy for Launcher display problems and errors that interfere with the Launcher or games. It is most appropriate when you see:

  • Missing, broken, or incorrectly styled interface elements
  • A Launcher that freezes, crashes, or remains stuck loading
  • Errors that appeared after a Launcher update
  • A download or update that appears stuck despite a normally working connection
  • A game-launch action that fails through the Launcher while the game installation itself is otherwise intact

Cache deletion is not a universal repair. Epic’s broader troubleshooting guidance also includes checking service status, installing Launcher updates, checking requirements, using administrator mode on Windows, updating graphics drivers, and reinstalling the Launcher when necessary: Epic Games Launcher troubleshooting.

What this does—and does not—remove

You are removing the Launcher’s cached interface and temporary web files. This is different from clearing a game’s shader cache, deleting a game installation, repairing game files, clearing cloud saves, or wiping a console’s system cache.

The documented paths target the named cache folders rather than game-installation directories. To avoid collateral damage, do not delete other Epic folders while looking for the cache. Epic’s instructions also do not describe this action as a guaranteed sign-out or account reset, so do not use it as an account-credential procedure.

If a cache folder is missing

That is usually normal. Windows installations may show only webcache, or one of the numbered variants as well. Delete the folders that are actually present; never create replacement folders and never substitute a different directory.

If none of the listed folders exists, return to the Launcher troubleshooting steps rather than deleting the whole Saved directory. The Launcher may have a different local state, or the problem may not be cache-related.

If Windows or macOS will not let you delete the folder

  1. Confirm that Epic Games Launcher was exited, including its notification-area icon on Windows.
  2. On Windows, open Task Manager and close remaining Epic Games Launcher processes. On macOS, open Activity Monitor and quit remaining Launcher processes.
  3. Try deleting the named cache folder again.
  4. If the files remain locked, restart the computer and repeat the procedure before opening the Launcher.

These process-closing steps are operating-system fallbacks, not a reason to force-delete unrelated Epic directories. On a managed work or school computer, file permissions may require an administrator.

Cache clearing did not solve the problem: what to try next

  1. Restart the computer. This clears remaining process locks and temporary system state.
  2. Check Epic’s service status. An outage can cause login, store, download, or launch failures that local cache deletion cannot fix.
  3. Install any available Launcher update. A current client may contain the actual fix for a display or loading defect.
  4. Run the Launcher as administrator on Windows. Use this when permissions prevent downloads, updates, or writes to required locations.
  5. Update graphics drivers if the symptom is rendering corruption, freezing, or a crash tied to the interface.
  6. Verify the affected game’s files. If one game reports missing or corrupted files, use that game’s Verify option in the Epic Games Launcher. Verification, not web-cache deletion, is the appropriate repair for an incomplete installation.
  7. Reinstall the Launcher last. Reserve this step for persistent Launcher-wide problems after the less disruptive checks above.

Launcher cache, browser cache, game cache, or console cache?

Epic Games Launcher versus the Epic Games Store website

The paths in this guide belong to the installed Launcher application. Clearing a browser’s cache affects the browser and does not necessarily refresh the Launcher.

Launcher cache versus an individual game

Fortnite, Rocket League, and other games can have their own temporary files and troubleshooting procedures. If the Launcher works normally and only one title crashes, investigate that game’s files and support guidance instead of deleting Launcher data.

PC and Mac versus consoles

Epic’s documented procedure covers Windows and macOS. It does not establish one universal “Epic cache” folder for PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch. Console users should follow the console maker’s cache or power-cycle instructions, or the game publisher’s platform-specific support page; do not apply the PC paths to a console.

Why the folder comes back

The cache is expected to return after the Launcher starts. Epic explains that deleting the old files allows the Launcher to rebuild them from its current data. Seeing webcache again is therefore normal and does not mean the deletion failed.
