To manually update Ubisoft Connect on Windows, download the newest installer from Ubisoft’s official Ubisoft Connect page and run it over the existing installation. This updates the launcher without normally requiring a reinstall of your Ubisoft games.
How to manually update Ubisoft Connect on Windows
The most reliable manual update is to download the newest Ubisoft Connect installer from Ubisoft’s official download page and run it over your existing installation. You do not normally need to delete Ubisoft Connect or reinstall your Ubisoft games.

Manual update steps
- Close Ubisoft Connect completely. Open the notification area beside the Windows clock, right-click the Ubisoft Connect icon, and choose the available exit or quit command. If the client will not close, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, select the Ubisoft Connect process, and choose End task.
- Open Ubisoft’s official Ubisoft Connect download page. Use Ubisoft’s website rather than a third-party download site, file-sharing service, or an old installer saved on your PC.
- Download the latest installer. If the download does not start, use the page’s Try again option. Wait for the download to finish before running the file.
- Run the installer. Double-click the downloaded installer. If Windows permissions appear to be preventing it from opening, right-click the file and select Run as administrator.
- Update the existing installation. Follow the installer prompts and keep the current Ubisoft Connect installation location unless the installer specifically requires another choice. Running the current installer over Ubisoft Connect is an update or repair of the client; it is not the same as reinstalling each game.
- Start Ubisoft Connect and sign in. When the installation finishes, open the client again. The outdated-client warning should be gone, and the application should be able to connect normally.
If Ubisoft Connect offers an update inside the app
When Ubisoft Connect opens and displays an update prompt, accept it and restart the application when requested. That is the simplest route. The manual installer method is mainly useful when the client cannot complete its own update, says that it is outdated, or will not launch.

What to do when Ubisoft Connect will not update
The installer does nothing or reports a file or path error
- Close Ubisoft Connect and try again with a freshly downloaded installer.
- Confirm that the download completed instead of opening a partial or damaged file.
- Right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator if Windows is reporting a permissions problem.
- Check whether antivirus software, Windows Controlled Folder Access, a company or school policy, or a network filter is blocking the installer. These are possible causes, not universal Ubisoft fixes; do not permanently weaken your security settings just to force an installation.
If the download itself repeatedly fails, try the official page’s retry option and check your network connection. Avoid replacing the installer with an executable from a random “DLL fix” or unofficial mirror site.
The client still says it is outdated
- Restart Windows.
- Download the installer again from Ubisoft’s official site rather than reusing an old copy.
- Run the new installer over the same Ubisoft Connect installation used by your games.
- Open Ubisoft Connect directly, sign in, and check whether the warning has disappeared before launching a game.
If the message remains, the problem may be the client installation, Windows compatibility, permissions, or connectivity rather than the game files. Do not delete game folders or replace Ubisoft executables manually unless Ubisoft Support gives instructions for your specific error.

Steam, Epic Games, and Xbox PC users
If you bought or launch a Ubisoft game through Steam, Epic Games Store, or Xbox on PC, you may still need Ubisoft Connect for authentication, ownership verification, library access, or launching the game. Updating the other storefront does not necessarily update Ubisoft Connect.

After updating the client:
- Open Ubisoft Connect directly.
- Sign in to the Ubisoft account linked to the game purchase.
- Wait for the library and account information to synchronize.
- Launch the game again from Steam, Epic Games Store, or the Xbox app.
If the game still does not appear, updating the client may not be enough. The remaining issue could involve a different Ubisoft account, account linking, entitlement synchronization, or a service outage. In that situation, contact Ubisoft Support and, when appropriate, the support team for the storefront where you bought the game.

Updating Ubisoft Connect is not the same as updating a game
| Action | What it updates |
|---|---|
| Run the latest Ubisoft Connect installer | The Ubisoft Connect desktop client |
| Install a game patch | An individual Ubisoft game and its game files |
| Update Steam, Epic Games Store, or Xbox on PC | The other storefront application, not necessarily Ubisoft Connect |
A current launcher does not guarantee that every game is patched, and patching a game does not necessarily repair an outdated or damaged Ubisoft Connect installation.
Security and installation cautions
- Download Ubisoft Connect only from Ubisoft’s official download page.
- Do not use installers from file-sharing sites, unofficial mirrors, or pages offering replacement DLL files.
- Do not delete or move your Ubisoft game-installation folders merely to update the launcher.
- Do not assume that clearing caches, renaming folders, or replacing executable files is required. Those actions should be based on current Ubisoft Support instructions for the exact error you see.
Ubisoft’s service terms allow the company to provide software updates or modifications that may be necessary to continue using its services. A version-outdated message is therefore usually a client-update or compatibility problem, not a reason to modify game files.

When to contact support
Contact Ubisoft Support after restarting Windows and retrying the current official installer if:
- the installer fails every time with the same error;
- Ubisoft Connect remains outdated after a successful-looking installation;
- the client opens but cannot sign in or synchronize your library;
- a Steam, Epic, or Xbox PC game is missing despite using the Ubisoft account that owns or is linked to it; or
- you suspect an account-linking or service-outage problem.
Include the exact error message, the storefront used to launch the game, and whether Ubisoft Connect opens directly. That information helps distinguish a client-installation problem from an entitlement or account problem.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will manually updating Ubisoft Connect delete my games?
No. Running the latest Ubisoft Connect installer over the existing client normally updates the launcher without requiring you to reinstall your Ubisoft games. Do not delete or move game folders unless Ubisoft Support specifically instructs you to do so.
Does Ubisoft Connect have a manual Check for updates button?
Ubisoft Connect may update itself when it opens and presents an update prompt. If that process fails, the dependable manual alternative is to download the newest installer from Ubisoft’s official website and run it over the current installation.
Do I need to update Ubisoft Connect if I bought the game on Steam or Epic?
Yes. Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox on PC can still rely on Ubisoft Connect for authentication, entitlement checks, and launching eligible games. Update Ubisoft Connect itself, sign in to the linked Ubisoft account, and then launch the game from the other storefront again.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Close Ubisoft Connect, download the newest installer from Ubisoft’s official website, and run it over the existing installation. Restart the PC and retry the fresh installer if the client still reports that it is outdated. Do not reinstall your games or download replacement files from unofficial sites.
