PlayStation Support states, “Please note, child members cannot be removed from your family.” Instead, use Family Management to adjust the child’s parental controls, playtime, or privacy settings.
Where to find Family Management on PS4
- Sign in to the PS4 using the family manager account.
- Open Settings > Parental Controls/Family Management > Family Management.
- Select the child’s account to review the settings available for that child.
The menu lets a family manager change supported child settings; it does not offer a supported option to remove the child. PlayStation’s family-account setup guide documents the PS4 path and the removal restriction.
Change the child’s settings instead
If your goal is to change what the child can do or see, review parental controls, playtime settings, and privacy settings. Family managers, parents, or guardians can manage a child’s privacy settings. Whether the child can change those settings independently depends on the permissions the manager has allowed. PlayStation’s Family app guide describes the child settings managers can update.
What if the child is eligible for an adult account?
When a child account becomes eligible to upgrade to an adult account, the child can choose to upgrade or select “Do This Later.” Upgrading is optional, and PlayStation says an upgraded account cannot be changed back to child status. This is an account-status choice, not a removal process for a child who is not yet eligible. See PlayStation’s account-upgrade guidance.

How adult family members differ
PlayStation provides a way to remove adult family members, but explicitly excludes children. The distinction is based on account role: the family manager administers the family, while a child member remains subject to the controls set by the manager or a parent or guardian. The official family-account guide covers the current removal guidance; PlayStation’s 2016 PS4 family-features walkthrough provides historical context on the roles.
