On Windows, open Options → About → Check for Updates. On Mac, Big Fish’s documented method is to uninstall the existing manager and install the current one through a Big Fish game trial. If you mean one particular game, updating the manager does not necessarily update that game’s files.
First, identify what needs updating
Big Fish uses its desktop app, also called the Game Manager, to handle sign-in, purchases, downloads, installations, and access to your library. That app is separate from:
- An individual game: A specific title may need to be downloaded or reinstalled separately.
- Windows or macOS: Operating-system updates and display or graphics compatibility are not Big Fish updates.
- Mobile games: The instructions below are for the PC/Mac Game Manager, not Android or iOS games.
The desktop manager is important to keep current. Big Fish decommissioned Game Manager version 3 on April 14, 2025; older version-3 installations can no longer sign in, make purchases, or activate games. See Big Fish’s version-3 end-of-life notice.
Update Big Fish Games on Windows
- Open the Big Fish Games App/Game Manager.
- Select Options.
- Open the About tab.
- Choose Check for Updates.
- Allow the updater to download and install the new version.
- Reopen the app and sign in again if prompted.
Big Fish’s May 28, 2026 release notice identifies Game Manager version 4.0.1.4 as the latest release found in the current support material. Big Fish may publish a newer build later, so use the in-app check or the official download page rather than relying on an old version number.

Check your installed version
Open the Game Manager, choose Options, and look in the upper-right area of the Options menu for the installed version. Do not treat version 4.0.0.0 as current: that number appeared in an older February 2025 support article and has since been superseded. The current release identified in Big Fish’s May 28, 2026 notice is 4.0.1.4.
Update Big Fish Games on Mac
Do not use the Windows Options → About → Check for Updates instructions on a Mac. Big Fish’s current documented Mac route is to reinstall the manager:
- Uninstall the existing Big Fish Games App/Game Manager.
- From Big Fish’s official website, download any Big Fish game trial.
- Use the downloaded trial to install the current Game Manager.
- If the download is a zipped folder, double-click it to unzip it.
- Move the Game Manager application into the Applications folder.
- Open the app and sign in.
This is Big Fish’s documented update mechanism for Mac, not a guarantee that every older game will work on every current macOS release. Big Fish has also cautioned that its major manager update was not specifically designed to solve Mac compatibility problems, although some users may see performance improvements.

If Check for Updates does nothing
Use these recovery steps in order:
1. Install the app from Big Fish directly
Open the official Download the Big Fish Games App page and choose the PC or Mac download. Big Fish also installs the app when you download a Big Fish PC or Mac game from its website.

2. Reinstall the Game Manager
A reinstall can help when the manager is corrupted or its activation and library functions are stuck. Before removing it, make sure you know the email address and password for the Big Fish account used to purchase your games. Do not delete personal save files unless Big Fish specifically tells you to; save locations and behavior can vary by title and platform.
After reinstalling, open the manager, sign in, and give it time to repopulate your purchase history. Big Fish’s Game Manager refresh instructions cover related library and activation problems.

3. Restart and check access
Restart the computer, then try the official installer again. Security software, firewall rules, network restrictions, or a damaged installation can prevent the updater from downloading or installing. Avoid unofficial download mirrors, registry cleaners, and third-party “driver updater” tools; use Big Fish’s own installer.

- Select Purchase History in the left-hand menu.
- Click Refresh.
- If the purchase still does not appear, reinstall the Game Manager.
You can also use My Game Library on the Big Fish website as an alternative route to recover a purchase.

How to reinstall or recover one Big Fish game
Updating the manager updates the desktop client; it does not establish that every game in your library has received a new patch. If one purchased title is missing, corrupted, or will not activate, recover that game separately:
- Open Purchase History in the manager or go to My Game Library on the Big Fish website.
- Locate the game and select its blue Download button.
- Run the downloaded installer and follow the prompts.
- Open the game and allow it to activate. Previously activated games should generally activate again, but activation is not guaranteed if the account or installation is still having problems.
Reinstalling restores the game installer and files available through Big Fish; it should not be described as proof that the developer issued a newer game build. Big Fish does not provide a universal guarantee that every legacy title receives modern compatibility updates.

A major manager update can sign you out, so signing in again may be normal. Big Fish says version 4.0.1.4 improves login reliability and reduces unexpected logouts, but it will not resolve every account or network problem.

- Confirm that the Game Manager is updated.
- Close and reopen it, then sign in again.
- Check that you are using the account email associated with the purchase.
- Refresh Purchase History.
- Reinstall the affected game.
- Reinstall the Game Manager if the library or activation system remains broken.
- Contact Big Fish Support if your account or purchase history is still unavailable.
When the problem is not an update
Crashes, freezes, failed installations, blank windows, and games that will not run can have causes unrelated to the manager version. Possible causes include a damaged installation, security software blocking the download, Windows updates or missing system components, display-scaling problems, or an older game that is incompatible with the current operating system.
For Windows display problems, Big Fish’s older troubleshooting guidance recommends installing critical Windows updates and restarting; it also discusses display scaling. Those instructions refer specifically to Windows 10 and use older Settings labels, so treat them as compatibility troubleshooting rather than universal directions for every Windows edition.
Use Big Fish’s Technical Help area for separate guidance on installation failures, crashes, network settings, missing games, Windows problems, and Game Manager issues.
When to contact Big Fish Support
Submit a support ticket if the manager still fails after the official update or reinstall route, especially when:
- you cannot sign in;
- purchases remain missing after refreshing Purchase History;
- a purchased game will not activate;
- the installer repeatedly fails; or
- the manager crashes after reinstalling.
For problems specifically related to the major Game Manager update, Big Fish previously asked customers to begin the subject with “Major Game Manager Update:” followed by a short description of the issue. Use the official support request form rather than third-party repair services.
