The game is Rodney Mullen’s SKATRIX, created by Reality Crisis with Niantic as co-publisher, co-marketer and technology collaborator. Its Vision Pro edition, Skatrix Pro, launched as a day-one spatial app in February 2024 and later added full-room mixed-reality features.
What Niantic actually announced
On January 31, 2024, Niantic announced a seven-year co-publishing and co-marketing agreement with Reality Crisis covering the Rodney Mullen’s SKATRIX franchise. The planned series was described as spanning iOS, Android, Apple Vision Pro and other supported mixed-reality or spatial-computing headsets. Niantic’s announcement also said multiple SKATRIX products were expected in 2024, although that historical expectation should not be treated as confirmation that every planned title shipped.
The division of responsibilities matters. Reality Crisis is the developer and creator of the Skatrix experience; Niantic is the publishing, marketing and technology partner. Calling it a new first-party Niantic game would therefore be misleading.
What Skatrix is
Skatrix is an augmented-reality and spatial skateboarding game that places virtual skating features in real environments. Depending on the version, players can scan locations, place ramps, rails and ledges, build skateparks, perform tricks and share or challenge others in created skate scenes.

The concept is not a physically ridden skateboard simulation. In Skatrix Pro, a virtual skater moves through a room or other mapped environment while the player targets surfaces with their eyes and controls tricks with hand gestures. The game is associated with Rodney Mullen, the influential professional skateboarder widely credited with creating or popularizing foundational freestyle and street-skating tricks including the ollie, kickflip and Impossible. His name anchors the franchise, but the available material does not establish that he personally built the software.
How Skatrix Pro works on Apple Vision Pro
The original Vision Pro experience uses the headset’s eye tracking and hand tracking rather than a conventional gamepad. The documented control flow is:
- Look at a ramp, rail, floor area or another target.
- Tap your fingers together to send the virtual skater toward it.
- Use pinching and swiping gestures through a virtual 3D joystick to perform tricks.
- Review the result in replay mode, including slow-motion playback.
Apple described Skatrix Pro among the games available for Vision Pro at launch, highlighting its physics-driven skateboarding and 3D hand-gesture joystick. The experience is therefore best understood as spatial mixed-reality play: the game’s level is arranged around the player’s surroundings, while the player remains physically in the room.

The full-room mixed-reality update
A substantial 2024 update expanded Skatrix Pro beyond its initial floating-volume presentation. Niantic’s June 6, 2024 update announcement described:
- Full-room mixed-reality gameplay.
- A skatepark builder.
- Improved hand-input gestures.
- More advanced environmental sensing.
- LiDAR-based 3D meshing.
- Skating over, on and around detected real-world objects.
The App Store version history lists version 2.0 on May 22, 2024, followed by version 2.1 on June 6 and version 2.2 on June 7. Those are storefront metadata dates; they should not be read as proof that every feature was announced or released on the same day.
Mobile Skatrix and Vision Pro Skatrix Pro are not the same build
Both editions share the basic idea of turning real spaces into skateable environments, but their controls and technical foundations differ.

Niantic’s original partnership announcement discussed Lightship features including Visual Positioning System, shared AR, meshing, Maps SDK and semantic segmentation. However, later technical clarification from Road to VR specified that Lightship applies to the mobile version, while the Vision Pro edition uses Apple’s spatial and environmental-sensing technology. The Vision Pro app should not be described as a Lightship-powered build without that qualification.
Is Skatrix Pro available?
The U.S. App Store listing for Skatrix Pro identifies Reality Crisis Oy as the developer and seller, lists a price of $19.99 and requires visionOS 1.0 or later. Reality Crisis describes the game as a day-one spatial title for Apple Vision Pro.

There is no reliable evidence here for a current 2026 support schedule, active development roadmap or additional SKATRIX releases after the documented 2024 updates. The safest status summary is that Skatrix Pro launched and received significant updates in 2024, while the longer-term franchise plans remain unconfirmed by the supplied sources.

The original Skatrix mobile app is listed for iPhone and iPad as a free download with in-app purchases. Its description focuses on scanning and skating real-world locations, placing rails, ledges and ramps, building skateparks, performing tricks and sharing scenes or challenging friends.
The U.S. storefront shows example purchases such as “A few” for $0.99, “A bunch” for $2.99, Pro Tricks for $0.99 and Park Builder for $1.99. These are examples from the listing rather than a complete or necessarily current purchase catalog.

Why the game is interesting on Vision Pro
Skatrix Pro is notable less because it proves that Vision Pro needs a skateboarding game and more because its mechanics depend on the headset’s distinctive strengths:
- Eye-and-hand interaction: gaze selects the target while gestures control movement and tricks.
- Environment-aware play: real surfaces and objects can become part of the virtual skatepark.
- Room-scale design: the game can use the player’s surroundings without requiring a dedicated physical skatepark.
- Spatial construction: the skatepark builder makes the room itself part of the level-design process.
Niantic and Reality Crisis have described Skatrix as a pioneering or first spatial skateboarding experience. That claim is best attributed to the companies rather than presented as an independently established industry record.
Who should play it—and who should skip it?
Skatrix Pro is most appealing to existing Vision Pro owners who want an experiment built around spatial interaction, skateboarding fans interested in Rodney Mullen’s association with the project, and XR enthusiasts evaluating environment-aware game design.
It is a weaker fit for anyone expecting a full-body skateboarding simulator, a conventional controller-based game, a large career mode or a Tony Hawk-style collection of levels. The player does not physically ride through the room, and the quality of object interaction depends on environmental scanning, lighting, room geometry and surface detection.

A clear, safe play area is important. A large room is not necessarily required, but players should avoid walking or physically skating while immersed and should remove obstacles before playing. Users should also avoid assuming that controller support is part of the design: eye and hand tracking are central to the documented Vision Pro controls.
The bottom line on Niantic’s Vision Pro skateboarding game
Niantic did announce an AR skateboarding project for Apple Vision Pro, but the accurate name and credit are Rodney Mullen’s SKATRIX, developed by Reality Crisis. Skatrix Pro launched for Vision Pro and evolved into a room-scale mixed-reality game through its 2024 updates. The mobile edition offers a lower-cost way to try the broader concept, but it is not technologically identical: mobile Skatrix uses Niantic’s Lightship-based AR technology, while Skatrix Pro relies on Apple’s spatial capabilities.
