Call Seat:Sit(humanoid) on the specific Seat you want the character to use. For example, a server Script can find the seat and the target character’s Humanoid, then call seat:Sit(humanoid). This attaches the Humanoid to that seat; setting Humanoid.Sit alone does not choose a particular seat.
Make a character sit in a specific seat
Get the destination Seat and the target character’s Humanoid, then call the seat’s Sit method:

seat:Sit(humanoid)This example assumes ChairSeat is a Seat and Character is the model to seat. Roblox describes Seat:Sit(humanoid) as forcing the character with that Humanoid to sit in the Seat.
Use the intended player character
In a player interaction, use the relevant player’s current character and confirm that it still exists before getting its Humanoid. For example:

endCalling the method from a server Script is a practical choice when the game needs the server to control or validate the interaction. The API documents the method’s effect, but does not prescribe one script location or security design for every game.
Confirm that the Humanoid sat down
After calling Sit, check whether the seat’s Occupant is the target Humanoid or whether the Humanoid’s SeatPart refers to that seat:

endHumanoid.SeatPart is nil when the Humanoid is not sitting in a seat. If your script needs to respond to later sitting or standing changes, use the Humanoid’s Seated event.
Why Humanoid.Sit is different
humanoid.Sit = true sets the Humanoid’s sitting state, but it does not name or attach the character to a particular Seat. Roblox notes that a Humanoid sitting without a seat attachment can trip with no collision in its legs. Use seat:Sit(humanoid) when the goal is to put the character in one specific seat. Handle disabled, occupied, or recently vacated seats
- Disabled seat: Check
seat.Disabled. Roblox documents a disabled Seat as behaving like a normal part rather than a usable seat. See the Seat API reference. - Occupancy: Check
seat.Occupantto see whether a Humanoid is currently in the seat. If the target did not sit, confirm that the seat and Humanoid are the instances you intended and that the seat is usable. - Recently stood up: Roblox currently documents a three-second per-character, per-seat cooldown after a character gets up. The documentation warns that this behavior may change, so do not rely on that duration for a critical game rule.
Use the corresponding method for a vehicle seat
For a vehicle’s VehicleSeat, call vehicleSeat:Sit(humanoid). Roblox documents the method on VehicleSeat as well as on the regular Seat. Seating a character and managing vehicle physics or controls are separate concerns; Roblox’s network ownership guidance discusses occupants of passenger Seats and driver VehicleSeats.
Use a click interaction
Roblox’s Supporting systems example shows a SeatManager that adds ClickDetectors to tagged Seats and calls seat:Sit(humanoid) when a seat is clicked. For a similar interaction, resolve the correct player character when the click occurs, check that the character and Humanoid are still present, and call the method on the clicked Seat.
