That gameplay rule is separate from how infection is described in the story lore.
How infection works in Piggy’s Infection mode
In the mode’s reported rules, getting caught by Piggy changes you from a survivor into a member of the Piggy team. Your objective then switches: instead of escaping, you pursue the players who have not yet been caught.
This description comes from a creator-video description published in 2020, which says a caught player joins Piggy’s team to hunt former teammates. It is a historical explanation, not confirmation that the mode or its rules are unchanged today. The [official Roblox Piggy page] describes the wider experience but does not specify current Infection-mode rules.
Does Infection mode explain how the story’s infection spreads?
No. Being caught is a gameplay rule for the mode; it should not be treated as the biological cause of infection in Piggy’s story. A community-maintained Piggy Wiki page about Substance 128 summarizes story routes that include drinking Substance 128 or being attacked by an infected character. That is a wiki summary, not a definitive statement of official canon.
