You can’t light the Ancient City centerpiece as a Warden portal in vanilla Minecraft, according to the official material cited here. The reinforced-deepslate structure may look like a portal, but Minecraft’s official notes do not describe an activation method, key, or recipe for it.
Why the Ancient City structure isn’t a confirmed portal
Minecraft’s Java Edition snapshot 22w13a describes Reinforced Deepslate as a mysterious block found in Ancient Cities and says it cannot be obtained in Survival. The notes do not call the structure an operational portal or explain how to activate it. Read the official snapshot notes.
That source is a Java snapshot published in 2022, not a current guide covering every edition. It supports the conclusion that the cited official notes document no way to light the centerpiece; it does not establish edition-by-edition behavior beyond that.
What Sculk Shriekers actually do
The same snapshot says world-generated Sculk Shriekers can summon Wardens. That is a separate mechanic: a Shrieker summoning a Warden does not activate the Ancient City structure.

- Each 3.25-inch scale Minecraft action figure comes with an accessory to recreate favorite in-game moments!
- Each also includes 1 Redstone Building Piece -- fans can collect the figures and combine all 6 building pieces to build a working TNT Cannon (each sold separately, subject to availability).

- The collectible figures make a great toy for video-game players and fans ages 6 years old and up, who will want them all! (Each sold separately, subject to availability.)
In the cited snapshot, Shriekers placed by players or generated through sculk spread have can_summon set to false. This detail concerns Warden summoning, not portal activation.
Is there a Warden drop or item that opens it?
The official snapshot does not identify a Warden drop, torch, flint and steel, or other item that opens the centerpiece. Advice to kill a Warden for a portal key is not supported by that official source, so there is no documented vanilla recipe to follow.

What about claims that the portal can be activated?
A Minecraft Feedback post proposes making the Ancient City structure activatable. It is a user-submitted feature suggestion, not confirmation that the feature exists in released gameplay.
A secondary article claims a Warden drop can light the portal, but the cited official notes do not support that claim. The article making that claim should not be treated as evidence of a working vanilla mechanic.
