Use ACT → Stare twice—stare at each orb once, or stare at the same orb twice—then choose MERCY → Spare. You can also use ACT → Clear Mind, then ACT → Talk, before sparing Madjick.
The simplest way to spare Madjick
- Choose ACT → Stare and select either the Chaser Orb or the Corner Orb.
- Choose ACT → Stare again. You can stare at the other orb, or repeat the action on the same orb.
- Choose MERCY → Spare.

Other ways to make Madjick spareable
Clear Mind, then Talk
Choose ACT → Clear Mind, then ACT → Talk, and select MERCY → Spare. Clear Mind prevents Talk’s confusion effect and temporarily increases defense, according to the Undertale Wiki and Game Design Lab reference.
Talk without Clear Mind
ACT → Talk alone can still satisfy the spare condition. Its tradeoff is that your directional controls are reversed during the next attack and your defense is temporarily reduced by one point. Undertale Wiki: Madjick; Game Design Lab: Enemies and ACT Options Reference.

Use the Stick
If you have the in-game Stick, using it is another route: Madjick mistakes it for a magic wand. This is an item-dependent alternative to the ACT routes. Undertale Wiki: Madjick; Game Design Lab: Enemies and ACT Options Reference; RetroAchievements Guides: Undertale (Standalone).
What to expect in the fight
Madjick appears in the CORE and attacks with magical orbs. The Chaser Orb follows your SOUL while leaving stationary crosses; the Corner Orb fires crosses and moves toward the direction your SOUL is heading. Staring at the Chaser Orb can produce a version of the attack with three Chaser Orbs, but that variant is not needed to meet the spare condition.
