What faction choice determines
AION 2 offers two player factions: Elyos and Asmodian. NCSOFT says they begin in separate regions, and describes the story—set 200 years after the original AION—developing toward large-scale Realm-vs-Realm conflict. Your choice therefore establishes your starting faction identity and the side you represent in faction conflict. How faction choice affects PvP
Faction identity is most consequential when a mode pits forces against each other. NCSOFT introduced Chaotic Abyss in a March 25, 2026 update, describing battles between West and East Forces. That update also separated PvP and PvE damage calculations, illustrating that combat rules can be adjusted differently for each activity. Do not assume every opponent will be the other faction
Match formats have varied. In its February 23, 2026 update, NCSOFT described an Abyss of Chaos format that could match Elyos against Elyos or Asmodians against Asmodians, as well as reducing PvP ranking-point loss to encourage participation. So faction identity matters, but “you always fight the opposing faction” is not a safe assumption. NCSOFT’s Abyss of Chaos update

Official PURPLE Lounge launch guidance says Elyos and Asmodians are on separate servers and that each Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian server for a limited time; cross-faction modes such as Spacetime Rifts and the Abyss draw opponents from the matched server. Because this guidance is tied to the global-launch lineup, do not rely on it for a current server pairing. Check current official notices for live matching information. Season 2 materials also described changes to Abyss encounters and Artifact Siege, including faction-wide buffs intended to help counter power disparities. That is evidence that PvP rules and balancing can change—not a current ranking of the factions. NCSOFT’s Season 2 update

Can Elyos and Asmodians play PvE together?
Yes, according to NCSOFT’s March 11, 2026 update: starting that day, players could form PvE dungeon and party groups across factions, with limited cross-faction communication in those settings. This is a dated, patch-dependent rule; consult current official notices if you need to confirm it for the live version. NCSOFT’s March 11 update
AION 2’s PvE content and systems continue to evolve. NCSOFT’s notices have covered Expedition dungeons, Nightmare bosses, Raid and Ascension Trial dungeons, and the Soul Fuse system. Those examples show that content expands over time, but do not show that either faction has exclusive PvE access or an advantage in PvE progression. NCSOFT’s February 11 update

Does faction affect progression?
The official sources cited here do not establish whether the current global version has faction-exclusive skills, rewards, lasting quest-chain consequences, or progression access restrictions. That is not proof that every progression detail is identical; it means there is not enough official evidence here to claim either equality or an advantage for one side.
NCSOFT has documented systems such as Kina (Bound) from quests and Duty rewards, NPC shops, Sealed Dungeons, and Strongholds, alongside regular Kina from player trading, monster hunting, and Odyle Energy Cubes. Those are progression-related details, but the notice does not attribute a faction-specific advantage to them. NCSOFT’s March 25 update

Which faction should you choose?
- Choose for identity and starting experience: Pick the faction whose story, appearance, and separate starting region appeal more to you.
- Choose for the PvP side you want to represent: Faction identity matters in faction-based conflict, but formats and server matchups can change. Verify current notices rather than choosing based on a presumed permanent pairing.
- Choose with your group in mind: Cross-faction PvE parties were enabled in the March 2026 update, which can make faction less restrictive for dungeon and party play, subject to any later rule changes.
- Do not choose based on an unverified progression claim: The available official information does not establish a faction with better progression, rewards, or power.
There is no evidence-backed “best faction” for PvP, PvE, or progression in the official material cited here. Make the choice based on the side you want to identify with and the community you plan to join.
