Epic Games Store giveaway games do not expire after you claim them: Epic says they remain in your account library permanently, even if you do not download them during the offer. The catch is that you must complete the claim while the promotion is active. Epic’s weekly-free-game guidance says the offer runs for seven days, starting Thursday at 8 a.m. Pacific Time, and requires an Epic account with two-factor authentication enabled. Check Epic’s Free Games page for the offer currently available.
What happens when you claim an Epic giveaway?
Claiming a game during its free promotion adds a lasting game entitlement to the Epic Games account used for the claim. It is not necessary to download the game before the offer ends. Epic’s support page says, “Once claimed, the game is yours permanently – even if you don’t download it right away.” Its FAQ likewise says that a claimed game remains in the library after it is no longer free to new customers. Read those statements as a promise about the account’s library entitlement—not a guarantee that every game’s online services or every feature will operate forever.

That distinction matters because the offer itself is temporary, but the claim is not. During the offer window, eligible users can add the game to their account without paying for that promotion. After a successful claim, the game is associated with the account; downloading and playing it can happen later. A game merely appearing as free on the store page is not the same thing as having claimed it.

Epic’s support guidance says an Epic Games account with two-factor authentication enabled is required to claim the weekly free game. If you plan to claim an offer, make sure you can sign in to the account you intend to keep using and that the required account security setting is enabled before you reach the end of the claim window. The support page does not specify a particular two-factor method in its giveaway rule, so follow Epic’s account prompts for the options available to you.

A completed claim and an installation are separate events. If you claim the game successfully but leave it uninstalled, Epic’s stated rule still applies: it remains in that account’s library. Conversely, downloading a trial or temporary build does not turn it into a permanent giveaway claim. For peace of mind, make sure the claim has completed on the store page while the offer is active, rather than assuming that opening the page or starting a download is enough.
How the weekly giveaway works
1. Find the active offer
Epic’s Free Games page lists its free-game promotions and describes the store as offering a new free game each week. The titles and promotion details rotate, so the live page is the place to check what is available now. Do not rely on an old announcement, a remembered title, or a schedule to determine whether a specific game is still claimable.
2. Check the deadline shown for that promotion
Epic Player Support describes the weekly free-game offer as beginning Thursday at 8 a.m. Pacific Time and giving users seven days to claim. Treat that as the stated weekly guidance, not a guarantee that every future offer will use an unchanged schedule: Epic’s current offer page should take precedence if its displayed details differ. If you are close to the deadline, use the time remaining shown for the actual offer rather than calculating from an assumed future rotation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe stated seven days are the time to claim, not a grace period for downloading the game. The relevant action is completing the claim during the offer window. Because the Free Games page is the live listing and promotions can rotate, checking it directly is safer than relying on a saved calendar reminder or an old social post. The weekly timing is useful for knowing when to look, but the individual listing is the better guide to whether a particular offer is still active.
3. Sign in to the intended Epic account
Use the Epic account whose library should own the game, and ensure two-factor authentication is enabled. This is especially important if you have more than one Epic account or have previously signed in using a console-linked account. A claim made on one account does not establish ownership in another account’s library.

If you switch between Epic credentials and console-linked sign-ins, pause to confirm which account is active before claiming. An account can be easy to confuse with another one if you use different sign-in routes. The library entitlement follows the account that actually completes the claim, so signing into the account you intend to use later is part of the practical claim process, not just a convenience.
4. Complete the claim while the offer is active
Follow the claim option presented for the free game on Epic’s store page. A successful claim is the key event: simply viewing the page, downloading a launcher, or intending to return later does not secure the promotion. Epic’s public guidance establishes the claim window and account requirement; for the precise controls and current offer conditions, use the live store listing.
If the offer has already rotated out by the time you return, the earlier opportunity has passed. Epic’s guidance for missed offers does not describe a way to convert a late visit, an unfinished attempt, or a download after the deadline into a timely claim. Do not assume the title is yours until the offer has been claimed on the account you meant to use.
5. Download when you are ready
Once the claim has been recorded to the correct library, you do not need to download the game during the promotional week. You can install it later from the account’s library, subject to the game and store being available to you. Keeping the game uninstalled does not turn a completed giveaway claim into an expired offer.
That makes the giveaway useful even if you do not have time, storage space, or a plan to play immediately. Claiming preserves the library entitlement; downloading is a later choice. Epic’s statements concern the claimed game remaining in the library, however, and should not be read as a guarantee that a game’s servers, online modes, or every feature will be available indefinitely.

What if you miss the free-game window?
If the promotion ends before you claim the game, Epic’s stated guidance does not give you a way to claim that expired offer afterward. Epic’s support answer to users who missed a free game points them toward future promotions and special offers, but it does not promise that a particular missed title will return. The game could be offered again in a later promotion, but you should not treat that possibility as an entitlement or a scheduled rerun.
For a missed offer, check Epic’s current Free Games page for what is available now and watch for future promotions if you still want that title. A prior promotion’s seven-day window cannot be extended by leaving the game page open, downloading the game after the deadline, or signing in once the offer has rotated.
In practical terms, there are two different outcomes: a game claimed while the promotion is active is described by Epic as staying in the library; a game whose offer you missed is not added to your account by that expired promotion. Future special offers may provide another opportunity, but Epic does not say that every missed game will come back or give a date for a possible return.
Giveaway claims are different from trials and temporary builds
The word “free” can describe access that has different rules. A full giveaway claim is the case Epic describes as staying in your library. A trial is a limited test period, while a beta or press build can be a temporary version that does not grant permanent ownership. Before relying on future access, check what kind of offer the listing actually presents.
| Access type | What Epic says about continued access | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Claimed free-game promotion | Remains in the account library permanently after the offer ends, according to Epic. | Complete the claim during the promotion and keep track of the account used. |
| Free trial | Access to the trial version ends when the trial period ends, unless you purchase the game. | Check the trial’s terms and decide whether to buy before access ends. |
| Beta or press build | A limited-time build does not itself grant permanent access, according to Epic’s missing-games guidance. | Do not assume that having played or installed the build added the full game to your library. |
Epic’s FAQ explains the trial distinction directly: during a free trial, a player can download and play a trial version before deciding to purchase, but “you can no longer access the game when the trial period ends.” That is a different offer from claiming a full game through a free promotion. If the listing uses trial, beta, or press-build language, the permanent-library rule for claimed giveaways should not be applied automatically.

- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
The distinction is about the type of access, not whether you downloaded something. A full giveaway claim adds a lasting entitlement to the account library; a trial grants access only for the stated trial period, and a limited-time beta or press build is not evidence that the full game was claimed. If you later see the game missing, go back to the original offer type as well as the account you used.
Why a claimed game may seem to be missing
Epic’s first troubleshooting point is account identity. People can have multiple Epic accounts, including separate Epic credentials and accounts accessed through linked console sign-ins. If you are signed into a different account from the one that completed the claim, the game may not appear in the library you are checking.
- Check the signed-in account. Confirm that the current Epic sign-in is the account used when the giveaway was claimed. If you use console-linked sign-in, make sure it resolves to the intended Epic account rather than a separate account.
- Confirm what was claimed. Review whether the original offer was a full free-game promotion, a trial, or a beta or press build. A trial ends with its trial period, and a temporary build does not establish permanent access to the full game.
- Use Epic’s missing-games support route. If you completed a promotional claim on the account you are checking and the game still is not visible, follow Epic’s official missing-games guidance. It addresses both apparently missing games and games that appear in a library unexpectedly.
Do not assume a game has expired merely because it is not immediately visible in the library currently open. First establish whether there was a completed giveaway claim and whether you are looking at the same account. Those checks distinguish an account or offer-type issue from a genuinely missed promotion.
Keep the questions in order: was the offer a full giveaway, was the claim completed before the promotion ended, and are you signed into the same Epic account? If the answer to the first two is yes and the game still is not listed in that account, Epic’s support route is the appropriate next step. The available guidance does not establish that every missing-library case has the same cause, so avoid assuming that an account mix-up is the only possibility.

Which Epic pages answer each question?
Epic’s weekly free-game support article gives the seven-day claim window, Thursday 8 a.m. Pacific Time schedule, two-factor requirement, and its statement that claimed games are permanent even if not downloaded right away. The Epic Games Store FAQ explains both post-claim library access and the separate rules for trials. Epic’s answer for users who missed a free game covers what happens after an offer ends, and its missing-games support page covers account and temporary-build explanations. Since offer timing and individual promotions can change, use the live Free Games page for the current listing and deadline.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Epic Games Store giveaway games expire after I claim them?
Epic says a claimed free game remains in your account library permanently, even after it is no longer free to new customers. You do not have to download it during the promotional week. This describes the library entitlement, not guaranteed operation of every online service or feature forever.
How long do I have to claim an Epic weekly free game?
Epic Player Support describes a seven-day claim window beginning Thursday at 8 a.m. Pacific Time. Check the live Free Games page for the current offer and its displayed details, since schedules and individual promotions can change.
What if I did not claim the game before the offer ended?
Epic’s guidance does not provide a way to claim that expired offer afterward. It recommends watching for future promotions and special offers, but does not promise that a particular missed game will return.
Do I need to download the game before the weekly giveaway ends?
No. Epic says a game remains in your library after a successful claim even if you do not download it right away. The claim must be completed while the offer is active; downloading is separate and can happen later.
Why is a game I claimed missing from my Epic library?
First check that you are signed into the same Epic account that claimed it, including whether a console-linked sign-in opens a different account. Then verify that the offer was a full giveaway rather than a trial or temporary beta or press build. If it was a giveaway claim and is still missing, use Epic’s missing-games support guidance.
Can I claim an Epic free game without two-factor authentication?
Epic’s weekly free-game support guidance says an Epic Games account with two-factor authentication enabled is required to claim the weekly offer. Follow the account prompts to enable the available security option before attempting to claim.

Epic giveaway games do not expire once successfully claimed to the right account, and they need not be downloaded during the offer. The limited part is the opportunity to claim: Epic describes a seven-day weekly window starting Thursday at 8 a.m. Pacific Time and requires two-factor authentication. Check the current Free Games page, distinguish giveaways from trials or temporary builds, and verify your account if a claimed title seems missing.
