Feather Falling IV reduces fall damage by 48%; Protection IV adds reduction for each armor piece carrying it, with applicable protection enchantments capped at 80% combined reduction.
What Feather Falling IV and Protection IV reduce
Fall damage is based on the distance fallen minus three blocks. Feather Falling is a boots enchantment and reduces fall damage by 12% per level, so Feather Falling IV provides 48% reduction. Minecraft Wiki: Feather Falling
Protection reduces damage by 4% per level for each armor piece bearing the enchantment. That means one Protection IV piece contributes 16%, while four Protection IV pieces contribute 64% from Protection alone. Feather Falling and Protection reductions can combine, but applicable protection enchantments cannot reduce damage by more than 80% overall. Minecraft Wiki: Protection
How the armor setup changes the answer
- Feather Falling IV, no Protection: 48% fall-damage reduction.
- Feather Falling IV and one Protection IV piece: the Protection piece adds 16% reduction; the combined reduction is below the 80% cap.
- Feather Falling IV and several Protection IV pieces: each Protection IV piece adds 16% through Protection, until the combined reduction reaches the 80% cap.
- Maximum-protection setup: the reduction is capped at 80%; this is not what Feather Falling IV plus just one Protection IV piece provides.
What the published Java height examples show
The Minecraft Wiki’s Feather Falling height table reports that its maximum-protection setup takes 0.2 damage from a four-block fall and 4.2 damage from a 23-block fall, where the unenchanted baseline damage is 20. These are examples for the table’s maximum-protection combination—not for Feather Falling IV alone or Feather Falling IV with only one Protection IV item. They are Java Edition table values, not a universal guarantee for every edition or armor setup. Minecraft Wiki: Feather Falling

Estimate a survivable fall for your health
For a rough estimate, first find the fall damage without enchantments, using fall distance minus three blocks. Then account for the reduction from your actual setup. If you have H health points and your setup reduces damage by R, the simplified estimate is that you can survive baseline damage up to approximately H ÷ (1 − R). This is an estimate, not an exact height guarantee: damage measurement and outcomes can vary by edition and setup. Minecraft Wiki: Damage
To use the estimate, identify your remaining health, count the armor pieces with Protection IV, and include Feather Falling IV on your boots. Do not apply the 80% cap unless your combined protection effects actually reach it. For a precise height, keep the edition and armor configuration fixed; the cited example heights are specifically from a Java Edition table.
