The cited guide puts its 100% completion scope at roughly 75–85 hours. In Story Mode, you can pause; on PC, Rockstar says to press Esc when no menu is open. These are estimates and platform-specific instructions, not guarantees for every play style or mode.
How long does GTA 5 take to finish?
It depends on what you mean by “finish.” GTA Intel’s guide, updated May 27, 2026, estimates three different completion scopes. These are secondary-source estimates, not official Rockstar playtime statistics.

The figures are estimates rather than a standardized playtime test. Your total will vary with pace and how much optional content you choose to do.
Can you pause GTA 5 anytime?
In Story Mode, yes: the game can be paused. The exact control depends on your platform. Rockstar’s published PC guidance says: “If no menu appears on screen then pressing Esc will pause the game, whereas the Right mouse button goes back in most menus.” This Esc instruction is specifically for PC and applies when no menu is already on screen.

The available guidance does not establish that GTA Online can be paused at any time, or that every mission state pauses in the same way. Keep the pause answer scoped to Story Mode rather than assuming online sessions behave like single-player.
What counts as GTA 5’s 100% completion?
The 75–85-hour figure is tied to GTA Intel’s 100% scope, which includes side missions, hobbies, random encounters, and collectibles. It is a broader target than completing the main story, so it should not be treated as the time required simply to reach the story’s ending.
