In the Ice and Fire mod, the documented default hatch time is 7,200 ticks, or six minutes. That is not a guarantee for every installation: the hatch-time setting can be changed, and the egg must first have the right conditions for its type.
What determines how long a dragon egg takes to hatch?
The Ice and Fire Mod Wiki lists 7,200 ticks—six minutes—as the default duration and says it can be changed in the mod configuration. A public configuration file for the Enigmatica 2 Expert modpack also sets the hatch-time default to 7,200 ticks, but that confirms the setting for that pack rather than for every Ice and Fire version or modpack. The wiki does not give a separate exact countdown for each egg type.

The timer matters after hatching has begun. The egg type determines the conditions needed to start the process, and the wiki describes the egg moving as a sign that hatching has started. Check the relevant condition before judging how long the wait should be.
What conditions does each egg need?

What to check if the egg is not hatching
- Confirm the egg’s element. Fire, ice, and lightning eggs do not use the same hatching condition.
- Check whether hatching has started. The wiki identifies movement as an indication that the process is underway. If the egg is not moving, revisit its condition rather than treating six minutes as an unconditional countdown.
- Check the modpack configuration. Look for the dragon egg hatch-time setting; it may differ from the documented default of 7,200 ticks.
- Consider the server and mod version. An upstream issue tracker includes a report of eggs failing to hatch on a Forge server, specifically mentioning lightning eggs. That is an individual report, not evidence that all builds have a server bug or that one fix applies universally.
The mod’s project context is available in its upstream repository, and the server-side report is recorded in its issue tracker. Neither establishes a version-independent remedy for an inactive egg.
