PlayStation Plus cloud-save access lasts only while your subscription is active. If you turn off renewal, your benefits continue through the paid-through date. After the subscription ends, Sony says you lose access to online storage—but its support guidance does not say how long cloud-save files are retained afterward. There is no confirmed deletion timetable to rely on, so download or back up saves before access ends.
What happens when you cancel or let PlayStation Plus expire?

In short, do not treat “I cancelled” as meaning “my saves were immediately deleted”—or assume Sony will keep them for a particular number of months. The exact post-expiration retention period is not specified in the cited support guidance.
How to protect your saves before access ends
- Check that your latest save has uploaded. On PS5, open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings to manage cloud saves and check sync status. Sony also explains auto-sync settings for PS5 games and cloud uploads for PS4 games played on PS5 on its PS5 cloud-storage support page.
- Download a local copy while your membership is active. PS5 users can manage uploads, downloads, and deletions from Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings. For PS4 games played on PS5, Sony says downloading a save to console storage must be done manually. Follow the console instructions for the specific game and save you need.
- For PS4 saves, consider copying them to USB storage. Sony’s PS4 online-storage guidance describes copying saved data to USB as a local backup option. This does not extend cloud retention. The cited PS5 guidance does not establish that individual PS5 save files can be copied to USB in the same way.
On PS4, uploads, downloads, and deletions can be managed through the console’s saved-data controls. Sony notes that a save made on a friend’s console may need to be uploaded manually, so check the save you actually want rather than assuming automatic upload covered it. See Sony’s PS4 instructions.
Cloud-storage limits are not retention periods
Sony lists capacity limits of up to 100 GB each for PS4 and PS5 saved data, plus a limit of 1,000 PS4 saved-data files. These are storage-capacity limits, not a promise about how long a save remains available after a membership ends. The limits appear in Sony’s US PS4 online-storage guidance and Canadian PS5 cloud-storage guidance.

Will your saves return if you resubscribe?
Sony’s cited cancellation guidance does not specify whether, or for how long, cloud saves remain available after a subscription ends. It therefore does not establish that a save will still be there if you resubscribe later. If you need a definitive answer for your account or a particular save, contact PlayStation Support rather than relying on an unconfirmed retention period.
