Mina the Hollower takes about 20–30 hours for a first playthrough, according to Yacht Club Games programmer David D’Angelo. That is a developer estimate, not a guaranteed finish time. Your pace, willingness to search the interconnected world, combat approach and interest in optional content can move you toward either end. GOG also displays separate HowLongToBeat community estimates of 18.5 hours for the main story, 24.5 hours for the main story plus side content and 31.5 hours for completionist play.
The short answer: plan on 20–30 hours the first time
The clearest answer to “How long is Mina the Hollower?” comes from Yacht Club Games itself. In an interview published by GameReactor on May 18, 2026, programmer David D’Angelo estimated 20–30 hours for first-time players. His full description was: “For first time players, it’ll run about 20 to 30 hours. Imagine it like all the Shovel Knight campaigns in one! It’s quite the adventure… but we crammed the same density of fun you’d find in any Shovel Knight game!”

The wording matters. This is a broad estimate for a first run, not a promise that every player will see the credits at a particular hour. It does not specify a speedrun route, a 100% completion route or the duration of a repeat playthrough. A player who follows the critical path and rarely detours may finish sooner than someone who searches every room, tests several equipment combinations and returns to unexplained areas.

That coverage corroborates the developer’s estimate; it is not an independently controlled measurement.

What the published playtime figures actually measure
Several numbers appear online because they describe different things. Treating them as competing promises creates unnecessary confusion. The developer estimate concerns first-time players, while the figures shown on GOG are community-derived categories attributed to HowLongToBeat.
| Reference | Time | What it represents | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yacht Club Games programmer David D’Angelo, reported by GameReactor, May 18, 2026 | 20–30 hours | Estimated first playthrough for a new player | Best-supported answer to the general “how long to beat” question |
| HowLongToBeat figure displayed by GOG, accessed October 13, 2026 | 18.5 hours | Main-story community estimate | Useful as a community reference, not a developer benchmark |
| HowLongToBeat figure displayed by GOG, accessed October 13, 2026 | 24.5 hours | Main story plus side content | Indicates how optional activities can raise a typical community run |
| HowLongToBeat figure displayed by GOG, accessed October 13, 2026 | 31.5 hours | Completionist community estimate | A qualified reference for extensive completion, not a verified guarantee |
The 18.5-hour main-story figure is not proof that the developer’s 20-hour lower bound is wrong. The two sources use different methods and labels: one is a developer’s first-player estimate, and the other is a community category shown by a storefront. The community values can also change as more players submit times. There is no named controlled study or independently measured median establishing a single definitive runtime.
Why your personal run can be shorter or longer
Exploration changes the route
Mina the Hollower is built around a large, densely interconnected world rather than a sequence of isolated stages. The official description emphasizes secrets and connected areas, so route-finding is part of the experience. A player who keeps moving toward the next objective will cover less ground than one who checks suspicious walls, revisits earlier junctions or searches for hidden rewards. That difference is why a range is more honest than a single hour count.
Combat familiarity affects retries
First-time players are learning enemy patterns, boss phases and the timing of Mina’s movement at the same time they are learning the map. Failed attempts, detours to improve a build and the time spent understanding a new attack all add to a real-world play session. Someone already comfortable with the game’s combat language can spend less time recovering from mistakes, but no published source provides a separate expert or repeat-player average.

Build choices invite experimentation
The official game description lists sidearms, Trinkets and a level-up system that lets players shape Mina around a preferred style. Trying a different weapon moveset or swapping Trinkets can make a particular encounter easier, but it can also lead you away from the fastest route while you test possibilities. Two players who defeat the same bosses may therefore record noticeably different totals without either one playing incorrectly.
Optional content is not a hidden fixed-hour allowance
The 20–30-hour statement does not break out a guaranteed number of hours for secrets, side activities or every collectible. Likewise, the 31.5-hour completionist number on GOG is a HowLongToBeat-attributed community estimate, not an official definition of what “complete” means. Use these figures as planning ranges, not as a checklist that promises an exact finish time.
How much content supports that runtime?
Yacht Club Games’ February 12, 2026 announcement gives several concrete indicators of the game’s scale:

- 60 Trinkets.
- New Game Plus.
- Hundreds of gameplay modifiers.
Those counts explain why a first run can feel substantial even before you pursue every secret. Bosses and mini-bosses provide repeated combat milestones, while Trinkets and modifiers create reasons to approach familiar encounters differently. The counts do not convert directly into extra hours: the announcement does not state how long it takes to collect all 60 Trinkets, clear every optional fight or test every modifier.

Interconnected areas create backtracking decisions
A connected map can make optional discovery feel organic. You may notice a blocked passage, an unusual room or a reward that is inaccessible with your current tools, then return later. That structure makes exploration time depend heavily on how much you remember and how methodically you search. It also means that “main story” and “all content” are not simply two linear versions of the same route.
Weapons, sidearms and Trinkets change the feel of a run
Different weapons have different movesets, and sidearms add further tactical choices. Trinkets and leveling let you reinforce a preferred playstyle rather than forcing every player into the same build. The result is replay value even when the objective is familiar: a defensive setup, an aggressive setup and a utility-focused setup can ask you to manage encounters in different ways. The official material establishes these systems, but it does not assign an hour value to experimenting with them.
What New Game Plus adds to replayability
New Game Plus is confirmed, so the game is designed to support at least one structured return after an initial completion. The announcement also confirms hundreds of gameplay modifiers. Together, those features give repeat players more than a simple restart: you can revisit the adventure with altered rules or a different build and compare how the same areas behave.
There is no official duration for a New Game Plus run. It would be misleading to add a made-up number to the 20–30-hour first-play estimate or to claim that every modifier requires a full additional campaign. Some players will use New Game Plus for a focused second run; others may cycle through modifiers, builds and optional encounters for much longer.

Reasons to start another run
- Try a different build: Change weapons, sidearms, Trinkets and level-up priorities to solve encounters in another way.
- Use gameplay modifiers: Select altered conditions for challenge, experimentation or a self-imposed ruleset.
- Explore missed secrets: A second pass through the interconnected world can reveal routes or rewards overlooked during a first clear.
- Revisit boss fights with knowledge: Familiar patterns can make rematches feel more deliberate, especially when paired with a new loadout.
These are concrete replay systems, not a claim that every owner will spend a particular number of extra hours. Your interest in mastery, collection and experimentation will determine whether the game feels like a single 20–30-hour adventure or a longer series of customized runs.
First playthrough versus completionist play
The developer’s estimate and GOG’s community categories answer different planning questions. If you simply want to know how long a new player should reserve for the adventure, use 20–30 hours. If you are deciding whether to pursue side content and a broad completion goal, GOG’s 24.5-hour main-plus-sides and 31.5-hour completionist figures provide additional community context.
Those storefront figures should remain qualified. GOG credits HowLongToBeat, and the values are displayed as community estimates accessed on October 13, 2026. They are not a laboratory result, a guaranteed route or a statement from Yacht Club Games. They may change as new submissions arrive, and individual definitions of “side content” and “completionist” can differ.

How to plan your time without overpromising a number
- Reserve a 20–30-hour window for a first attempt. This is the only directly stated developer estimate and is intended for first-time players.
- Decide whether discovery is part of your goal. If you intend to investigate secrets and revisit connected areas, plan around the upper portion of the range rather than treating the lower number as a deadline.
- Choose your completion target before you start. A main-story finish, a run with side content and a completionist hunt are different projects. The community figures of 18.5, 24.5 and 31.5 hours can serve as labeled reference points, but none is a promise.
- Leave separate time for experimentation. Testing sidearms, Trinkets, level choices and gameplay modifiers is part of the game’s replay design. Do not count a New Game Plus or modifier-heavy run as a fixed extension of the first-play estimate.
- Adjust after your first few sessions. Your actual pace is more useful than an internet average. If you are spending most sessions searching and retrying bosses, your personal total will naturally trend above a direct route.
Platforms and what to check before buying
Yacht Club Games lists Mina the Hollower for Nintendo Switch and PC among its supported platforms, alongside other platform listings on the official game page. Runtime expectations describe the game rather than a specific storefront edition. Before purchasing, confirm that the listing you choose includes the platform, language and edition you want; the published playtime evidence does not establish different campaign lengths between platforms.
What is established—and what is not
The evidence supports a clear, limited conclusion: a first playthrough is estimated at 20–30 hours, and community figures shown by GOG place main-story, main-plus-sides and completionist play at 18.5, 24.5 and 31.5 hours respectively. The game also has substantial replay hooks, including New Game Plus, hundreds of gameplay modifiers, more than 25 bosses and mini-bosses, 60 Trinkets, secrets, varied weapons, sidearms and leveling choices.
What has not been established is equally important. No reliable source gives a guaranteed second-run duration, a precise time for collecting every Trinket, an official 100% route or a controlled average across players. The responsible way to describe replayability is therefore qualitative: the systems clearly encourage additional runs, while the number of extra hours depends on how deeply you explore and how many builds or modifiers you want to try.
Bottom line
Expect about 20–30 hours for your first playthrough of Mina the Hollower. Use the 18.5-hour main-story, 24.5-hour main-plus-sides and 31.5-hour completionist figures shown by GOG as separate HowLongToBeat community references, not replacements for the developer estimate. New Game Plus and hundreds of modifiers make further play possible, but no official source assigns those repeat activities a fixed number of hours.
