You can finish the campaign Acts without completing every side objective or finding every collectible; those are separate goals for players pursuing the related achievements. How long is the Gears of War: E-Day campaign?
The clearest completion-time example is TechRadar reviewer Dashiell Wood’s 2026 playthrough: he reported playing for over 25 hours while completing the campaign and pursuing every collectible and optional side mission, and said he saw the vast majority of the side content. Treat that as one reviewer’s run, not a guaranteed duration or a publisher estimate. TechRadar’s review describes short side missions in a handful of larger, more open environments, while noting that the game guides players toward the next objective rather than offering a true open world.
Separately, PC Gamer contributor Abbie Stone described E-Day as a 20+ hour campaign in an in-progress review published October 1, 2026. That is another reviewer’s assessment, not a controlled benchmark or a main-story-only figure. PC Gamer’s review does not establish a standardized completion time.
Neither report isolates a run that skips side content, and the sources do not compare completion times by difficulty or co-op mode. The most useful estimate therefore depends on your goal:

Can you skip side content?
Yes, if your goal is simply to complete the campaign Acts. Xbox Wire lists the Acts-completion achievement separately from achievements for completing all campaign secondary objectives and finding all campaign collectibles. That distinction indicates that side objectives and collectibles are not prerequisites for the Acts-completion achievement.
The official preview gives a concrete example: in Chapter 2, the squad can take an optional side mission to help another team before continuing toward its main objective. Xbox Wire describes the story as otherwise linear, so expect optional detours within a guided campaign rather than unrestricted open-world roaming. Xbox Wire’s campaign preview outlines that mission.

What counts as full completion?
Xbox Wire’s September 9, 2026 achievement list separates several completion targets:
- “Remember Kalona”: complete all Acts of the campaign on any difficulty.
- “Side Piece”: complete all campaign secondary objectives.
- “Memories From E-Day”: find all campaign collectibles.
- “For Whom The Bell Tolls”: complete the campaign on Insane, all side missions, and all hidden items.

What is not established about skipped missions
The available official information distinguishes campaign completion from optional-objective and collectible completion, but it does not explain whether missed side content can be replayed later, whether chapter select is available, or whether a particular objective becomes unavailable after advancing. If you want every side-content achievement, complete objectives as they appear rather than assuming you can return to them.
Xbox lists solo, two-player split-screen, and up-to-four-player online campaign play, but the cited sources do not compare how long those modes take. Xbox’s official game listing also frames E-Day as a Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago origin-story campaign set fourteen years before the original Gears of War.
