Techland estimates that Dying Light: The Beast’s main story takes around 20–40 hours. GamesRadar+ gives a narrower 25–30-hour story estimate, while its estimates rise to 30–40 hours for players who sample optional content and 45+ hours for completionist play. These are estimates, not guaranteed finish times; how much you explore and pursue will shape your run.
How many hours does Dying Light: The Beast take?
The most direct current figure comes from Techland’s official FAQ, which says finishing the main story takes around 20–40 hours. GamesRadar+’s 2025 editorial estimate is 25–30 hours for the story. The ranges differ, so treat them as useful guideposts rather than a fixed or statistically measured average.
| Playthrough scope | Estimated time | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Main story | Around 20–40 hours | Techland’s current official FAQ; approximate estimate. |
| Main story | 25–30 hours | GamesRadar+’s 2025 editorial estimate, not a controlled average. |
| Story plus a range of optional activities | 30–40 hours | GamesRadar+’s 2025 estimate for sampling content. |
| Completionist play | 45+ hours | GamesRadar+’s 2025 estimate; its scope includes pursuing the level cap. |
GamesRadar+ writer Jasmine Gould-Wilson also reported a personal playthrough of 52 hours. That is one player’s experience, not a population-wide completion statistic.
What counts as a fuller playthrough?
Optional activities can stretch a run beyond the main story. GamesRadar+ points to safe zones, dark zones, power relays, side quests, tasks, and collectibles as content players may choose to tackle. Its 30–40-hour figure describes sampling a range of activities; its 45+ hour completionist estimate reflects a more thorough approach.

Those figures are not a promise that every activity or collectible fits into a particular duration. A player focused on the critical path may finish sooner than someone who explores, while thorough completion can take longer than the estimate.
Does the current game include new content?
Techland says the currently available base game includes free updates, including Restored Land. That update adds survival rules and a more demanding way to experience the game. The official FAQ does not give Restored Land a separate playtime estimate, so there is no supported number of extra hours to add to the story ranges.
Rank #2
Techland’s official game page describes the adventure as “40+ hours, solo or shared-progression co-op.” That is a broad description of the overall adventure, not a story-only estimate, and should not be substituted for the FAQ’s 20–40-hour main-story range.
What can change your finish time?
- Exploration and optional objectives: Side content, locations, tasks, and collectibles add time according to how much you take on.
- Difficulty: GamesRadar+ notes that difficulty may affect duration, but does not provide measured comparisons between settings.
- Progression goals: Legend Levels begin after level 15 and offer further progression and rewards, according to Techland’s support documentation. Reaching or progressing through them is not the same as finishing the main story, and Techland does not give a time target for this system.
- Solo or co-op: The game supports solo play and shared-progression co-op with up to three other players, as described on Techland’s official FAQ. The cited sources do not establish whether co-op makes a playthrough faster or slower.
Which estimate should you use?
If you want a practical planning range for the story, use Techland’s official 20–40-hour estimate and keep GamesRadar+’s 25–30-hour figure in mind as a separate editorial estimate. Add the 30–40-hour range as a guide if you expect to sample optional activities; allow 45+ hours if you are aiming for completionist play. None of these figures is a guaranteed 100% completion time.
