Chris Hansen and independent investigator Schlep worked together on an investigation into child-safety concerns on Roblox. It became Dangerous Games: Investigating Roblox — A Chris Hansen Special, which distributor TruBlu announced for an exclusive premiere on February 27, 2026. The project brought attention to alleged predatory behavior on the platform, but arrests, allegations and a documentary are not the same as convictions or a court’s findings.
What did Chris Hansen and Schlep investigate?
Hansen, the investigative journalist and television host, joined Schlep, a creator known for independently investigating alleged online predators. Their collaboration was reported in August 2025, and TruBlu later announced the resulting special, Dangerous Games: Investigating Roblox — A Chris Hansen Special. TheWrap reported on the collaboration; TruBlu’s February 24, 2026 announcement named the special and its premiere date.
The subject is the risk of adults using a youth-oriented online platform to contact or manipulate children. The available reporting describes Schlep’s team conducting stings and says some initial contact, according to Schlep, took place on Discord rather than Roblox. That distinction matters: an interaction may begin on one service and move to another, and a reported sting is not itself a finding about what happened in every case.
TruBlu’s announcement said Roblox had more than 71 million daily active users globally and cited more than 13,000 incidents flagged in 2023 involving manipulative or coercive tactics. Those are figures presented by the distributor, not independently verified measurements in the announcement. They describe the scale and type of concern TruBlu invoked; they do not establish the prevalence of abuse across Roblox or prove any particular allegation.

What did the investigation establish—and what remains unproven?
ABC News reported Schlep’s claim that his efforts led to at least six arrests. The outlet also said police had made no public statements about the stings it described. In a later November 2025 report, WIRED reported Schlep’s statement that none of the six people arrested after his team’s stings had been convicted at that time. An arrest is not a conviction, and that status was time-bound to WIRED’s report.
These accounts support a careful distinction between the investigation’s claims and adjudicated outcomes. The reporting describes alleged conduct, stings and arrests; it does not establish that all allegations were proved in court. Nor should a documentary’s presentation be treated as a substitute for a court judgment or a public law-enforcement account.

Why did Roblox ban Schlep, and what do the two sides say?
The dispute is not simply about whether child safety matters. It is about who should investigate suspected offenders, how evidence should be gathered and what risks an independent sting can create.
| Perspective | What the source reported | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Roblox | In a statement quoted by ABC News on August 30, 2025, Roblox said vigilante actions could expose more users to bad actors and delay enforcement by the company and law enforcement. | This is the company’s stated rationale for opposing such activity, not an independent finding about every action Schlep took. |
| Schlep | WIRED reported that Schlep said he provided information to Roblox and authorities, wanted a direct way to report concerns, and denied Roblox’s allegations about wrongdoing. His lawyer, Martin Gould, argued that independent investigators were responding to a gap in addressing the problem. | These are Schlep’s and his lawyer’s accounts of his conduct and motives. |
ABC News Australia reported Roblox’s statement and Schlep’s arrest claim. WIRED’s November 25, 2025 account gives more detail on both sides of the dispute. The company’s ban and Schlep’s description of his intentions are separate matters from whether alleged offenders were guilty.

Why does Roblox say users should report through official channels?
Roblox’s chief safety officer, Matt Kaufman, told PC Gamer that official reports can include object IDs, avatar IDs and context that a screenshot alone may not capture. He encouraged users to submit reports through Roblox’s official channels, saying that this lets the company investigate without the additional risks it associates with vigilante activity. PC Gamer also reported that Roblox acknowledged users’ frustration with how reports were handled.
This explains the company’s reporting rationale; it does not show that every report will receive a timely or satisfactory response. Independent stings, meanwhile, can create risks of their own, according to Roblox’s position. The dispute illustrates why suspected exploitation should be routed to appropriate authorities and platform safety teams rather than treated as proof of guilt or an invitation to confront a suspected user.

In August 2025 coverage, Kaufman cited 111.8 million average daily active users, 6.1 billion chat messages and 1.1 million hours of voice chat across 28 languages. These figures were attributed to Roblox’s chief safety officer in PC Gamer’s August 14, 2025 report; they are dated figures, not current 2026 platform metrics. PC Gamer’s report covers both the reporting explanation and the figures.

On May 14, 2026, the Oklahoma attorney general filed a petition containing allegations about Roblox’s safety practices and the use of Robux to exploit children. These are claims in a government legal pleading, not findings that a court has established as fact. The petition is relevant to the wider debate, but it is not proof of the claims made in the Hansen–Schlep investigation or a ruling on the company’s liability. Is Roblox safe for kids?
The investigation and the surrounding dispute do not support a simple yes-or-no verdict about every child’s experience on Roblox. The platform has a large youth audience, and the sources describe concerns about grooming and coercive behavior alongside disagreement over how suspected cases should be investigated and reported. A headline, arrest claim or lawsuit allegation cannot by itself measure an individual child’s risk or establish that a specific user committed a crime.
For families, the practical takeaway is to treat online contact and safety reporting as ongoing concerns: talk with children about suspicious or coercive messages, use the platform’s reporting options, and involve appropriate authorities when there is a serious or immediate concern. Roblox’s stated reason for preferring official reports is that they can carry account and interaction context that a screenshot may not show; the platform has also acknowledged user frustration with report handling.
