The RTX 3070 Founders Edition has one HDMI 2.1 port. Some partner-made RTX 3070 cards have two HDMI ports, so check the exact card model before planning a multi-display setup.

RTX 3070 Founders Edition ports

NVIDIA’s RTX 3070 Founders Edition has one HDMI 2.1 connector and three DisplayPort 1.4a connectors, according to the RTX 3070 user guide. NVIDIA lists support for up to four displays on its RTX 3070 specifications page. Four-display support means four screens across the available outputs; it does not mean four HDMI ports.

Why the HDMI count varies

“RTX 3070” names the GPU, not one universal card design. Board partners choose their own output layouts, and NVIDIA notes that specifications can vary by manufacturer. For example, the specified Gigabyte EAGLE revision has two HDMI 2.1 and two DisplayPort 1.4a outputs, while the MSI VENTUS 2X 8G LHR has one HDMI output and three DisplayPort 1.4a outputs.

Specific RTX 3070 model HDMI ports DisplayPort outputs
NVIDIA Founders Edition 1 (HDMI 2.1) 3 (DisplayPort 1.4a)
Gigabyte RTX 3070 EAGLE, revision 2.0 2 (HDMI 2.1) 2 (DisplayPort 1.4a)
Gigabyte RTX 3070 GAMING OC, revision 2.0 2 (HDMI 2.1) 2 (DisplayPort 1.4a)
MSI RTX 3070 VENTUS 2X 8G LHR 1 3 (DisplayPort 1.4a)
MSI RTX 3070 SUPRIM 8G 1 3 (DisplayPort 1.4a)

These counts come from the manufacturers’ specifications for the named models and revisions: Gigabyte EAGLE, Gigabyte GAMING OC, MSI VENTUS 2X, and MSI SUPRIM. Check the exact product and revision rather than assuming another card with a similar name has the same bracket.

Connecting HDMI monitors and TVs

One HDMI display

Connect the monitor or TV to the RTX 3070’s HDMI output. The Founders Edition has one native HDMI connection; the HDMI port sends video and audio to a display and is not an input for capturing another device’s HDMI signal. External HDMI capture requires a separate capture device.

Two HDMI displays

A card with two native HDMI outputs can connect both displays directly. With a card that has one HDMI port, connect one display there and use a compatible DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter or cable for the other. NVIDIA’s four-display specification is a total display limit, not a guarantee that every screen can connect through HDMI directly.

DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapters work in the DisplayPort-output-to-HDMI-display direction. Depending on the adapter and target mode, an active adapter may be necessary. Match its stated resolution, refresh rate, HDR, audio, and other required features to the display; an unspecified adapter should not be assumed to deliver HDMI 2.1-level performance.

HDMI 2.1, 4K at 120 Hz, and what to check

The Founders Edition’s HDMI connector is HDMI 2.1, but that label on the graphics card alone does not ensure a 4K/120 Hz signal. The whole connection must support the mode: the card output, the TV or monitor’s particular HDMI input, the cable, and any adapter in the path. Display settings and the game or application matter too. Check the display and cable specifications for the resolution, refresh rate, HDR, color depth, and variable refresh features you want.

Where to plug in the display cable

Connect the display to an output on the RTX 3070’s rear bracket, not the motherboard’s HDMI connector. A motherboard video port belongs to the system’s integrated-graphics circuitry, if present, and is separate from the graphics card’s outputs.

If the display shows no signal

  1. Confirm the cable is connected to the RTX 3070, not the motherboard, and select the matching HDMI input on the TV or monitor.
  2. Test the card’s native HDMI port directly, without an adapter, and try another cable or display input.
  3. If the connection uses DisplayPort-to-HDMI, verify that the adapter supports the target resolution and refresh rate and is oriented from DisplayPort output to HDMI display.
  4. If possible, test another display. If the problem began after a software change, update or reinstall the NVIDIA graphics driver.
  5. Check the exact card model and revision; its physical output layout may differ from the Founders Edition.
